Good, Cheap wool for soakers?

I am looking for what wool will work well for soakers for a newborn. It needs to easily accessable in a store like Michaels, AC Moore, or Jo Ann Fabrics preferably. Is the fisherman's wool a good choice? Patons Marino... seems soft, does it work ok? Lion Wool? Is there one I'm missing that is widely accessable?

I have not used the Fisherman wool yet, but have heard it is good. I have used a couple different kinds found at Joanne's. The first couple soakers I knitted I used Jo-Ann Sensations Licorice Yarn and Jo-Ann Bellezza Collection Tesoro yarn. They are both 100% wool. The Bellezza looses it's shape just a bit, I crocheted a soaker with this though and it worked really well because typically crochet soakers don't stretch quite enough. Both yarns lanolized well and I have not had leaks or any more wicking then I have had with other wool covers I have bought.

ooh, good to know! What I like about the idea of fisherman's yarn is that I could koolaid dye it, and it's cheap. I've been knitting one w/paton's marino, and I'm hoping it works well. It's soft, in any case!

What about a wool co-op? There is usually one going on here at the TP or diapertraders usually has one on too. With a co-op you get good wool, cheap, delivered to your door and you can dye it as well. HTH
