What does every WAPF mama want to hear...

...from their dentist?

"The best thing about your son's teeth is the spacing."

!!!!

Only you guys would really understand.

And this is from my WAPF dentist so she knows what she is talking about.

The funny thing is that I've been looking at a lot of old pictures vs.
recent pictures lately and I thought his spacing has improved in last
several years. And his face has almost fully lost the heart shaped
appearance of his infancy.

I'm so happy!

Wow! How old is your child? I had no idea TF could make a radical difference. I thought it could only do that kind of thing if the mama was on TF during her pregnancy. Wowza.
Yay for your DS! I sure hope all this TF eating helps my DD, whose teeth are coming in somewhat crooked and crowded. I would have thought that eating whole foods omni during pregnancy and TF pretty much since her birth would have helped, though
post #4 of 32
Yeah, that.

I ate whole foods (but not organic) during my pregnancy. And our family eats NT style now. But my DS's teeth look too crowded to me, and they're very weak. He has brown spots and his teeth break easily. Bah.
Ooh! You have a WAPF dentist? You wouldn't happen to be in N. Cal, would you? I'm looking for a good natural dentist up here. Thanks!
That's awesome! Woohoo!

My kids have great spacing. But the discoloration worries me.

though my dentist isn't WAPF, he did say that my ds had great spacing between his teeth. when i used the term "dental arches" appropriately in a sentence, he gave me a funny look.

He is almost 4. He's been on high vitamin cod liver oil and bone broths for 2 years and raw grassfed milk for a bit less than that.

Reportedly Pottenger has done studies on nutritional intervention and growth of children, I think we talked about it a while back. It only makes sense to me ... if the correct vitamins and minerals are provided, the genetic blueprint of the child can be fully developed as the child grows. I asked the Price Pottenger for help in finding this and they had other priorities.

The key is the right amounts of nutrients... you can have a healthy diet and still be deficient in A, D, K2 and minerals. And also like I just posted in my iodine information, if you start deficient, I think it will take many more times the "standard healthy diet" amount to recover.

I would suspect vitamin D considering you live in WA. Here in the northern latitudes you cannot even make D several months out of the year. And cloud cover during other times of the year can also influence body's absorption of UVB rays. And sunscreen and lots of clothing.

I love it when MDC mamas surprise their clinicians!

I would love to see those studies. I ate the brewer diet while pregnant with ds (he is almost 3). We were vegan for a while and switched to traditional foos about 15 months ago. Ds teeth look pretty good overall. Very strong and white (and they don't seem to be crowded) I felt back when we started TF that it was not to late to make a big impact on ds future even though he was about 1.5 yo because he was still growing.

I am so encouraged by your story Jane!

Dr. Pottenger writes that "the highest grade of raw milk, raw meat,
raw vegetables, and fruit products obtainable" are in the clinical
work. He points out that "we have been able to improve the
physiologic response of children who have previously been developing
in a deficient manner" similar to the experimental animals which were
fed upon heat-processed foods. Even defective facial growth has been
improved, and Pottenger states that "when additional growth
stimulation is applied to certain deficient children at the right
time, before they have attained facial growth, material changes
in the contour of the face can be brought about without the
application of surgical appliances."
This is from the DeVries book: The Elixir of Life. I originally got the quote from the Soil and Health website but the link is now protected, you need to sign up to get it. Sadly this is all the info there.

There is another mention in a short publication Pottenger wrote but that doesn't tell us more.

That's the thing, though...how on earth are you supposed to figure out what you're deficient in? Up until a couple of months ago I took 2 tsp. of high vitamin CLO daily, and DD took 1/2 tsp from about 10-15 months of age. Her teeth do seem like they've straightened some since we added ghee into our diets a couple of months ago, though, so maybe K2 is our big problem.

It takes time and research. First you can see what symptoms you have and then see what defiencies those are related too. Some things are best diagnosed by different blood tests, taste tests (zinc is that one), or just sypmtoms can be enough (like leg cramps and magnesium). This can take a long time but addressing all my defiencies was life changing for me. I had most of mine figured out and addressed through Julia Ross' clinic in SF. They were D, iron, zinc, and B6. I figured out A and magnesium on my own. I just knew I had to be deficient in retinol because I was a vegan so I took 1-2T for a while and I needed the D anyway. Then the magnesium because I was having little twitches that went away when I supplemented.

Thanks JaneS! My sister is in MA and I visit several times a year. I'll definitely pass on the info myself and maybe go there when I visit.

Yay Jane!! How exciting! dd1's teeth are straightening out some too, but I doubt we'll ever hear that her teeth are nicely spaced . . . dd2 on the other hand was a TF pregnancy (and still has only 6 teeth at 16 months!), so I have more hope . . .

Oh my goodness Jane that is such great news!! And the good news for me is that your dentist is only 30 minutes from my home I think we'll give her a try for our next check-up!
