My MIL, the professional homeopath, generally prefers that people take only a 6C dosage of a remedy, and only one remedy at a time, and a maximum of three doses of a given remedy.
(About six hours after the first dose, if you are all better, STOP. If you are worse, switch to a different remedy. If you are a bit better, take the second dose.)
She might use a higher potency for an urgent/emergency situation, but doesn't really like people to treat acute situations without consulting her...
May I ask what you are treating? I see both false labor and after pains listed under these remedies in my book... Caulophyllum seems indicated if you are having SPASMODIC pains (of either type.) Cimicifuga is called for if you have agitation and pain or depression with a sense of impending evil, also if you feel worse from COLD and better from WARMTH.
