I recieved this message from a friend today and a group of us are planning to attend the hearing tomorrow. Any form of support will be appreciated.
Hello ladies, & families ...
I am e-mailing you all (and I am sure many of you will hear from others regarding this matter) ... some of you probably already know about the recent devastating situation of Sue Merrill (Midwife in Cheyenne) - she has been arrested for practicing medicine without a license .. but that's not all - she is being accused of manslaughter for a case that occurred last year: a family from Nebraska had their baby in Cheyenne, and against Sue's advice to wait before they headed back to their home, 6 hours after the birth they decided to drive back home, and on the way the baby lost its life - I really don't have more details about this case, but it is obvious that Sue is not responsible for what happened to the baby - as painful and awful as this event is.
I am writing to you because I promised I would try to spread the word as much as I can to everyone that believes in home birth, or believes in human rights as well as women's rights - and I am asking you to either consider helping out, or forwarding this message to anyone you think would be interested in helping.
Sue and her family and not wealthy by any means, they are wonderful, simple hard working people - and the legal fees that Sue will be facing will be devastating.
I received a call from Ellen Piver in Cheyenne who is organizing and rallying help for Sue - she is asking for support in any way possible - financial help is extremely appreciated anywhere from $5 - $100 collectively will help tremendously.
There is a court hearing tomorrow in Cheyenne at 2:45pm - anyone interested to attend just for support is advised to do so ... they want to pack the place in support.
I have known Sue personally - as she delivered Eros in 2004 - she is a wonderful, beautiful person that truly does what she does out of passion and desire to help. Darryl being of medical background and in the medical field has nothing but the highest regards, respect and appreciation for Sue and what she does - our experience with her was truly magical - and we will always be thankful for her love, support and help through the special time in our life.
Eros was baby #350 (and that was three years ago exactly this Sunday) since then, I believe she has delivered close to 500 babies - and only 2 or 3 deaths have occurred over the many years(how many babies die at the hospitals everyday?? no one is to blame when these unfortunate tragedies happen - rarely is it because of human errors, so Sue's record is truly outstanding)
If you would like to join the effort in supporting Sue, and care to see her rights and the rights of many women and families protected, please contact Ellen Piver: 307-635-1030 and see what you can do - you can add your name and e-mail address to the updating list, you can join a support website that is being put up right now, and you can receive by mail a pledge if you care to help financially.
I thank you for taking the time to read this - and I hope we can generate as much support and help for a person that truly deserves it.
Feel free to contact me with any more questions, or concerns.
Thanks .. peace,
Jasmin
