Anyone given birth while sick?

Hi, everyone. This board has been so exciting lately with all the birth threads! Keep up the good work, mamas!

I feel like we're quickly approaching my time to birth this babe, and I'm terribly sick with a cold and sinus/chest thing that is really kicking my butt. Has anyone ever gone through labor and given birth while sick? I'm wondering if maybe my adrenaline will kick in and I won't notice being sick so much?

Also, my mom keeps saying "They might not let you hold the baby if you're this sick"...which of course has me a tad distracted and worried. No one could possibly prevent me from holding/nursing my baby, could they? Of course, I don't want to make my little one come down with anything...but since my first daughter was whisked away from me so quickly I need to have bonding time with this one.

Okay, back to nesting and resting. Happy labor vibes to all who are birthing right now and in the near future!

I had nasty allergies and a running nose the wholetime. Went through two boxes of nasty hospital tissues. Next time, I'm bringing my own!

Never even crossed my mind - I'm putting a new box of soft tissues in the labor bag now. Thanks!

I'm not in your ddc, but I gave birth in August while I was really sick with a cold. It was miserable trying to breathe through ctrx when I couldn't breathe.

How could anyone not "let" you hold your baby? It is your baby. No one can let or not let you.

First of all, ESPECIALLY if you are sick, your baby will need to nurse from you to get those antibodies, so I expect they would encourage you to breastfeed the baby.

Your mom really wasn't thinking clearly when she suggested anything different to a preggo, emotional lady, I think.

I know a couple of people here had babies while sick (previous pregnancies.) I think WombatClay was one of them, but, of course, she's having her baby right now so she probably won't see your post for a bit!

Thanks, the lissa and willo. I think I just needed some validation that this darn cold wouldn't come between me and my perfect birth.

Looks like it's getting better - I can breathe! Woohoo!

Not in your ddc but I had a nasty cold when I gave birth. The only part that sucked was after when I was sore and kept coughing. My mom didn't want my sister to hold my son but she had gotten sick from me so I was fine with her holding him. He did not get sick from me or my sister. Good luck.

Having recently recovered from the flu, I had this same conversation with my MW! She said that in all the years she has been a MW, only one mom suffered through the labor with symptoms. All the others just cleared up and really had no symptoms while laboring. I second the extra tissues, though!

Do you have a neti pot? If so, I would start using it now. Also do whatever you can to boost your immune system, just so you will feel better after the birth.

Feel better soon.

birted yesterday with a cold and phlegmy chest. I did not notice in labour to be honest. Did cough as usual the worst has been afterwards. My stomach muscles and perineum are not liking all the coughing.
