Totally worth waiting for...
Cara Louise was born at 12:15am Thursday 7th June, 26 days past the (very wrong) due date we'd been going with for the last 9 months, and 16 days after the scan date that was definitely a lot more accurate! Despite loads of stress and unecessary worry from doctors over the last few weeks, we ended up with an unbelievably brilliant homebirth, 4 hour first stage, 1 hour second, physiological 3rd, no pain relief whatsoever, breathed her out on my hands and knees in our bed. Without doubt the best thing I've ever done, I feel like superwoman (albeit superwoman who has been badly beaten up!)
Birth really couldn't have gone any better, only complication was a ragged tear which the MWs didn't feel comfortable that they could suture competently, so unfortunately I had to transfer to hospital a couple of hours after the birth. Which was annoying for lots of reasons, but not a terrible experience, and we got out under 12 hours later (would have been about 3 if it wasn't for their understaffing..). Actually it was kind of funny (though unpleasant), as I got completely off my face on gas and air (Entonox) whilst I was being stitched up and may have been a wee bit obnoxious to the obstetricians in singing the praises of my natural homebirth...
Anyway, she is beyond perfect, 7lb 12oz, Apgars 9 at 1 min, 10 at 5. Any sooner and she would have been underdone I reckon, so the waiting was worthwhile! Gonna write a proper birth story once I get meself together a bit, which may be a while....
