Joseph Raymond-Update in post 23

Our son, Joseph Raymond, was born yesterday morning at 6:04 am. He's 8 pounds 15 ounces and 21 1/2 inches long. Labor was fast and intense-about 7 1/2 hours-we had a nearly 4 hour drive to the birth center (normally 3 but I made DH stop a lot!) which was difficult, but we arrived shortly after 4 am and almost fully dialated! I had a small tear, but no interventions or drugs! (I think the stitches were far worse than delivery! And still are!)

Nursing is slow going, as Joseph isn't very interested yet, but he is doing better bit by bit. We'll go see our lactation consultant as soon as we get home if things haven't picked up by tomorrow.

He's a delightful little guy-he's snoozing on my lap at the moment making beautiful baby sounds and being handsome as can be (he looks a lot like daddy!)

Congratulations! You astound me with a 4 hour drive while in labor!! Amazing.

The nursing will definitely pick up once your milk comes in, and an LC is a great idea for backup.

Well, after 2 days of struggling with nursing, Joseph and I are finally starting to get the hang of it. Unfortunately, he now has jaundice and the dr on call originally wanted him in the hospital tonight (our first night home) but is giving us until tomorrow noonish before we have to retest. He's nursing like a champ now-he nursed for nearly an hour twice this evening (plus 6 other 20-30 min sessions) and we are hoping that he'll be impoved enough to keep him home. So, we'll be up all night nursing round the clock, so send good nursing vibes this way!

Congrats. I'm glad nursing is going better.


Tomorrow, as soon as the sun comes up, get you and the baby in the sun. The sun should help with the jaundice. If he needs lights, request to have them at home, they have them on home health, you don't need to be in the hospital for this.
