I am so confused!!

Hello again. I went to the hospitle last night around 3am. I was having very strong contractions that were 4 minutes apart. But when I got there I found out that I am still closed. Last Thursday my Dr told me that the baby was very low and that I should be dialated to at least a 2. Also her heart would slow down every time I sat up. I was told not to sit up straight or bed over. And to do everything I could to get labor going. Scence then I have been to the hospitle 2 times. : I found out that I had a UTI and am taking med for that. Now for the 2ed week in a row I am being told that I am 36 weeks. How can this be possible? My last period was in Aug. They did a ultrasound and found out that my baby weighs 7lbs 8oz. WOW. I am so confused! Can my baby be in any danger? Can I be in any danger? Why am I not dialating? Is there anything I can do? Is my Dr crazy?!?

I have no advice for you just ALso, don't go to the hospital until you can't talk through them, you will know! They will be even more intense and you will maybe make noise or be very irritable. Good luck mama.

Oh, Angel, I'm sorry you have to deal with both frustrating circumstances and frustrating people.

Often the range on U/S based weight estimates are +/- 2 lbs. That means if your baby were to be born today, she could weigh anywhere from 5 1/2 and 9 1/2 lbs and the U/S estimate would be considered accurate. The shocking thing to me is with that wide a weight estimate cushion, sometimes they're still wrong.

So far as your doctor's comment goes, I don't consider a woman not being dilated to 2cm at 36 weeks a health concern. Did (s)he explain what she meant by "should"? Did (s)he also tell you how low the decels were?

Unless you had a strong sense about your baby's wellbeing, I'd try to avoid any trips to the hospital that don't result in a birth. As you didn't mentioned it sometimes preparatory contractions can be stopped by bathing or resting. I think preparatory contractions are helpful but knowing they're preparatory rather than "terminal?" might help you stay home peacefully. Can you or your dh check you for dilation? When the medical types state their precise 2, 4, & 6cm dilation measurements, they're really just measuring if 1, 2, or 3 fingers can fit inside your cervix. You might also see if you can find a doula to come to your home to help you stay home as long as practical.

I wish you well,
BV
