Sealing permanent teeth

Our children's dentist wants to seal their permanent teeth to help prevent cavities. Is this a good thing? Sounds good, but does it actually work?

Didnt work for me. They didnt clean my teeth well enough before sealing.

Now i have cavities in my molars in the deep valleys.

Have had one tooth pulled due to that and another needs to be pulled but i am bfing a new born so thta will have to wait.

Who knows though if they hadnt have been sealed how bad those cavities would have been.

I also have read that the the sealant can disrupt hormones. I do have problems with my hormones, if it related to sealant or not I will never know.

i am going to ditto pp. all it did was delay my cavities into my late twenties and one was so bad i had to get a root canal! the stuff never fully came off (so it didn't matter how well i brushed!) and created these extra places for food to collect...urg!

The material used for sealants contains bisphenol-A (hormone disrupter) & usually fluoride as well. The material is the same thing as that which is used for enamel fillings - so if you don't want to expose your Dc, hygeine is really the only answer (and diet, of course - a traditional diet, IMO.)

Well, if you don't use sealants, and your child develops cavities .... you will end up with composite fillings which also contain bis phenol A. My child got the sealants.

And alternative to ask about is glass ionomer cement, this is a temp filling material that many dentists will use in primary teeth. It is very bio-compatible.
