Here is Evan's birth story, he was born June 5 at 1:11 pm @ home with a Midwife:
I woke up at 2 am on June 5 with some stronger than normal contractions, they were about 15-20 mins apart so I stayed in bed and slept between them. At about 5 am I woke up with a serious contraction and I knew that I would not be sleeping anymore. These contractions were different than DS's birth, it was as if they peaked right away with no buildup then slowly went down. From 5-7 am I sat on the couch and breathed through contractions. By 7 am they were coming every 5 mins and were hard to breathe through so I woke up DH (DS was still sleeping).
DH started getting everything ready and I told him to fill the pool. DS woke up sometime before 8. At 8 I called the MW to let her know I was pretty sure this was it, she had a chiro appt at 9 and she told me to call her if anything changed. After I got off the phone with her I had some major contractions and was squatting down in the kitchen during them. I called her back at 8:06 am and asked her to come over right after her chiro appt. About 20 mins later I asked DH to have her come NOW. I was feeling a lot of pressure and knew things were happening fast. I got right into the pool hoping to slow things down.
MW arrived sometime around 9:00 am and I was having a really hard time staying relaxed through contractions. I asked to be checked then decided against it. Around 10:30 am I started getting a panicky "I can't do this" feeling and thought I might be in transition so I asked to be checked. I was a stretchy 6 cm. I got out of the pool for 30 mins and contractions got REALLY close together - like 1-2 mins apart. I got right back in the pool hoping to slow things down. I started feeling pushy, MW checked me at 11:30 and there was an anterior lip. I pushed a bit during contractions but only when my body made me.
Sometime around noon my body just took over and began pushing completely on it's own. I had no control over it, I kept reaching in the feel baby's head. I pushed in the pool for a while, I could feel my bag of water ballooning out with each push. then I squeezed it a bit and it popped. When DS crowned I panicked and felt I had to get out of the pool right away, so I stood up and said I was getting out. I got out, a contraction hit, I squatted and his head popped out. One more contraction and his whole body was out. I picked him up and MW gave him a little oxygen to help him pink up. All was well after that. He had some trouble nursing at first but now he's a pro.
Overall the birth experience was good, but it was a little scary and intense.
