Hello again, another question. I was researching diaper/mama cloth making online again and came across a website that saide to hammer the snaps (metal ones). I obviously won't be investing in a snap press etc. so can I do this and is it very difficult? Can I buy these snaps at the fabric store?. A side note, I am not opposed to velcro it is just ds takes those dipes off, so I may use velcro for fitted and small dipes I may make for future lo's just not for ds, kwim?

Yes, these would be the metal snaps that you buy in a fabric store. If you're going to go with metal snaps, though, the snap-setting gadget for them isn't very expensive (not even close to the price of a nylon/plastic snap press).
Just a quick search of Joann.com, and I found two different snap pliers for less than $20:

Just keep in mind that metal snaps won't last as long as the nylon/plastic snaps will (they just don't hold up to all the washing and drying and opening/closing as well) but it will work. I would use a heavy-duty snap, like the one in the second link.

I prefer touchtape, but I did make a few diapers with metal snaps. The metal snaps have held up very well, and he has been in these covers/diapers for almost a year (lots of use). Just make sure to reinforce the back, but that is easy.

so I will probably be switching to snaps...so it's good to know that metal has held up so well for you!I forgot to say to reinforce the snaps, but that's a really good point, and it should make them stand up to the opening/closing better.
Ok, un-hijacking the thread now
