Water or Pee?

Ok- I hate to be the newbie to post this message, but it is 4 am in the morning and it seems as if either my water has broken or I have lost my ability to hold my pee. I almost feel as if the fact that I was aware that something was coming out makes me believe it was pee. But this is a first for me. So here is what has happened:
3:45am I get up to pee- as usual- as I get up I am aware am uncontrollably squirting . (*fine- this is why I wear a pad*) I pee- not too much- I go back to bed.
4:00am I think I need to pee so I get up and I feel like squirt even more. - Underwear and pad is soaked- I pee change underwear and pad then go back to bed.
4:30am same thing again this time I am aware that I am peeing so I get up run to the bathroom- a few trickles come out and my underwear is soaked/pad.
I check the bed a couple of times - there is a pee spot but who knows how much b/c under my side of the bed my husband just laid down an absorbent waterproof thing.

Anyway- this sounds like I have all of sudden just developed a bladder problem right? B/c if it was water- it would be a continous gush right that didn't feel related to my bladder correct?

I am all paranoid now b/c our dinner guest tonight said that when her water broke it wasn't a gush- just a slight trickle and before that she hadn't had any contractions.

I don't think I am having any contractions- just an occassional need to poop and pee in the exact same time. That kindof crampy feeling painful but bearable- every few minutes?

What is this? Am in early labor and just completely oblivious or am I correct? Tired and need to go back to sleep- but this peeing thing really throwing me for a loop. (*sigh*)

Besides water, are there any other signs that your water has broken?

YEAH, YOU'RE IN LABOR! Call the midwife. I was just like that on #1 -- I thought I'd lost the ability to hold in my pee, but as it turns out, I had a high leak. It was basically the precursor to my water breaking altogether and labor really kicking in. The occasional need to poop is basically cramp/contraction-related, I believe.

thanks for asking that question....i'm a 'newbie' too, and i've been wondering about similar stuff----i got up to pee about 3 times last night, and everytime i was in the middle of a contraction (strong, but not real painful), and as i was on the toilet, i would shift my hips, tilting them forward and more liquid would come out, but i couldn't tell where it was coming from.....perhaps the contraction squished my bladder in a certain way and once i shifted my hips, it allowed for a further emptying, or perhaps it was a water bag leak....i haven't had anything happen since then (went for a walk with my fiance, been up and around, etc.), so.....any hunches out there, O experienced moms?

thank you.....

Well I got up to go back to bed after posting and I had an even uncontrollable trickle to gush of pee/water. So I ran to the bathroom and sat down. I guess I should have tried to control it but with the trickle down my leg.... Anyway, along with my pee was a streak of blood- nothing I would in general make a big deal of (*I don't think*) but I guess that would be the bloody show I keep reading about. Anyway, liquid is clear and odorless and there is lots of the slippery (*I guess mucosy?*) stuff as well..

So I called my sister and my pp doula and both feel that I am probably in early labor. *crumbs* I was hoping to incubate her till 40 weeks- but I guess I may have to settle for 37weeks/6days.

I guess I should call my doctor and let him know... (hmmm...) I am now sitting on an underpad b/c I can't seem to stop leaking. Baby hasn't dropped yet... *weird* the cramps or contractions feel bearable.

Will keep you posted. This feels very weird. Like I really need to poop but the sensation goes away after a few minutes.

More perplexing to me is that my sister says it has less to do with pain and manageability than it does distance apart when I told her the cramping was slight. She said the same thing happened to her- by the time she got to the hospital- and got hooked up her contractions would register high and ready to come out but she wouldn't look like she is pain. Anyway we shall see. I am hesitant to call my doctor- worried he will ask me to come in and they will induce me. In Bradley Class my teacher told us to lie about the time the water broke to "buy time" from being induced.

We shall see...

Sending positive, peaceful labor vibes! How exciting to read this thread as your labor is progressing! Can't wait to hear the birth story!

sniff!

Your waters should smell quite different from pee. Some describe the odour as sperm-like, but definitely not like pee!!
