I just ordered a Roomba vacuum!

We returned from our Canadian vacation on Saturday. The gal that runs the B&B we stayed in in Calgary has a Roomba and swears by it. Her house is immaculate (a good sign!). She bought her standard model from Canadian Tire. She has both hardwood floors and wall-to-wall carpets (similiar to our home) and said it works great on both.

I found several threads here about it, and it sounded pretty good, as well. So, I decided to take the plunge and order one.

I got on the internet and went directly to the company's website. I decided to order the iRobot® Roomba® for Pets instead of the regular model. We have a rent-a-dog (hair), two cockatiels (powder feather dust) and a gardening-loving husband (dirt always gets tracked-in, no matter how careful we are!). I figured this model would be a bit tougher on daily cleaning.

I almost ordered their iRobot shop vac but i figured it would have stiffer brushes that might scratch our hardwood floors. If the indoor one works well, maybe I'll get the other for dh for his birthday.

They had a special of $50 off and they allow for a 30-day trial period. If you don't like it, send it back and they'll refund your purchase price + the shipping + the cost of returning it to the company. I figured we have nothing to lose if we don't like it.

So, it should arrive in a few days. I am really excited about this ( silly, huh?!). I am looking forward to my NOT vacuuming under our bed anymore, just letting the little robot do it for me . I'll have more time for other, truly, fun stuff: :Paint :

Ds wants to name it "R4" after a little maroon R2 unit from one of the "Star Wars" films!

mamarabolli, THANK YOU FOR THE LINK!!!

I am sure we will know fairly quickly if we like this little robot or not, so I can send for the Dirt Dog in time to access the free offer.

Thank you, again! Imagine the vision of two of these critters going about their business. Ah, it's bon-bon time...................

I will post here after it has its first test run!

I'll be sure to post my opinions as well!

Subbing, I'm interested to know how you like it.

Problem is - for the roomba to work, you have to pick up all the toys! Might not be the solution for me....

I'm prepared to make this a "lifestyle" change. I find that if I don't pick up the toys, I don't clean the floors and it cycles out of control until I freak out. My both dd's are terrified of our vacuum now, so my plan is to program it to run either at night (downstairs) or when we leave the house. This will create a habit for me and the kiddos to pick everything up before the robot starts. Hopefully, a win win. Less clutter and less dirt/dust on the floors.

This will be my biggest challenge, but I just need to do it. Worst comes to worst, the robot will just move some toys or go around others. The people I spoke with said it shouldn't cause any harm. At least the floors will get partially cleaned.

I just can't wait for it to get here. I haven't vacuumed in 4 days and the crumbs and sandbox sand is accumulating.... eek.

I *love* my Roomba. I've had one for years. When dh and I had to live on opposite sides of the country for a while we got a Dyson. It was so horribly designed, super noisy and didn't work at all. As I was taking off the single hair that had jammed it for the 50 time I was muttering "for $400 the d*mn thing should vacuum the floor itsself." Then it hit me: I already owned one that did vacuum the floor itsself and I'd never had any problems with for $200! We returned the Dyson and bought another Roomba. Sure, it's not perfect in the corners, but it's a lot more perfect than I am because it tries! I just desperately wish my floors could take a Scooba...

Yeah, we need to get in the habit too, I have good days and then I have bad weeks... this week we are all sick so nothing has happened.

What floors do you have, and why couldn't it take it?

I just posted in another thread, that I LOVE my roomba!

I have looked into these, but couldn't justify "not doing the work" if that makes sense. I'm jealous however with how much you ladies love your Roombas. I may have to re-think my position. Love my Dyson however.

I felt the same way, but now I spend an extra 15 minutes reading a book w/ my dds.

For those that have them, what type of carpeting do you have? We're about to move into a place with high pile carpets (certainly nowhere near shag, but a bit loftier than our current burber.) I've heard that the Roomba hates thicker carpeting. We're in the market for a new vacuum, and I"ll happily spend a little more to get this one if it'll actually work on our carpets. The entire freaking place is carpeted. Bummer...I hate carpets, I hate vacuuming.

I have hardwood floors and very low carpet. The roomba makes a nice adjustment for both. I would buy it from Hammecher Schlemmer and return it if it doesn't work. As far as I know, that's the only distributor that'll take back it's product.

Welcome to the Roomba club! And it is the greatest thing for getting my son to pick up his toys (he doesn't want Roomba to eat them!)

I really want a Scooba!, Maybe when we move.
