We use the Costco stuff too (green wrapper). The roll is single ply and lasts sooooo long. We use one roll of the costco stuff for every 3 of regular toilet paper. So we are avoiding the extra packaging of those rolls (cardboard and the wrappers). I'm not sure of the trade-off environmentally speaking, but with one main bathroom for 4/5 people I sure enjoy not changing the roll every day or two. And because it is single-ply, I find that I am using less as I still use the same length of paper, it's just way thinner.

Here there is a brand called Marcal and it is 100% recycled, unbleached and it regularly goes on sale at local supermarkets at a very good price. I buy lots when it is on sale and have never run out of the "sale" stuff. (Although sometimes my storage gets a bit crowded with those cases of t.p.!). Not so soft, though. I am considering cloth, though, especially because I have this big stack of nice soft cloth wipes from the diapering days. Kids can really waste a huge amount of t.p.
