Power Surge Problems

We bought a home almost two years ago and everytime it storms our power goes out at least once - Is there something that can be done to protect the whole house, my fridge is fried for the second time, I can't find a surge protector that will work with our outlets (they are upside down). My hard-drive got fried w/ surge protector. I don't know what can be done, I really hate my all electric house!

Any ideas will be greatly appricated!

you need to put a surge protector on your box, before the eletricity comes into the house. Is your house grounded? Should do that as well.

I am not sure if the house is grounded, the house is less than two years old, but the longer I live here the more I know the builder didn't build it very well.

How can you tell if the house is grounded or not?

Where do you get a surge protector for the box?

Call your power company. They can do all of this for you.

Grounding ... there should be a copper insulated wire from the breaker box outside buried into the ground.

I'm not sure what you mean by your outlets are upside down? I've had outlets that were upside down in a house before - its just the whole outlet is turned 180, any normal surge protector will plug into it just fine?

Also, outlets can be replaced very easily, I've replaced every outlet in two homes so far...
