Can you have a homebirth in Indiana?
What are the laws in this state etc?

Thanks

You can have a homebirth in any state...it isn't illegal to have a homebirth.

In Indiana, however, direct-entry midwifery IS illegal ( ). That said, I know of midwives in Indiana who attend births, so there ARE midwives in Indiana...they just aren't able to practice openly or legally.

I am not sure what the status is in Indiana of CNM's being able to attend homebirths.

You can birth at home, but it is "illegal" for a CPM or DEM to deliver. Visit the Indiana tribal area. There is info about a homebirth group that meets every month in Indianapolis. Also, there are a few people on the boards that have had homebirths in Indiana. There are many midwives in the state. As far as I know, there are no CNM's that do homebirth

Actually, I know of at least 2 CNM's who do homebirth,....one is mine, lol! the cool thing is, she has complete "legal" status as well as APN status, so she can prescribe and stuff....

And yes, there are a lot of "illegal" midwives which practice as well, many of whom are quite good.
Which part of the state are you looking in?
