I mean seriously... I can't get full and I eat at least every hour. I'm still nursing DD and running also, but geesh! Anyone else constantly starving???

Me too! And I'm only in the 5th week here. Food food food, but everything tastes funny to me. You'd think I could enjoy this new appetite, but NOOO! I'm sure it will pass and I'll be stuffing my face (with healthy foods of course) in no time!

I'm the exact same. Hungry about an hour after eating, all day long! And, for the most part, things just taste off. I'm not nauseated or anything (yet! Only turn 5 weeks tomorrow, so there is plenty of time to be sick still
) But things just don't seem to taste normal, and every now and then, something unexpected is down right gross! I didn't have this with DS, so it's a wierd thing to be feeling.
I'm also still nursing, but not a ton, so I don't know how much of it is my body actually wanting the extra calories, or how much of it is just hormones telling me I want treats like lots of yummy cheeses and chocolates?!
I don't want to sound neurotic, but it's actually been bothering me about how hungry I have been. I have read so many things that talk about the troubles of extra weight gain in pregnancy, and I had an awesome pregnancy and labor with DS which I think was significantly in part due to eating very well and staying active. I want so much to do the same with this little one! So I am worried about finding the right balance between eating the calories that your body needs to grow a baby, without giving in to all these extra hormones which are telling me to eat chocolate ice cream while resting on the couch!
I read somewhere that you only need between 200 and 300 extra calories a day when you are pregnant. Is this true regardless of the trimester?
So far, though its only been less than two weeks, I've been able to work hard at choosing very healthy things, but I don't know how long my endurance will keep up with a toddler draining my energy every day!
Help!

I have been so hungry I wake myself up at night and HAVE to eat before I can get to sleep. If I let myself go too long without eating I feel ill, and of course I have to be very specific and quick about what I eat.

Also, I am convinced that the 200-300 add'l is an average. Some days I'd have like 600 calories extra, and some 0... Depending on how the baby was developing. And if you're nursing at all or working out, it would effect the additioanly calories you need to eat.

Me too! The weird thing is that I'm hungry constantly, but then when I eat, I get full fast. Then, an hour later....dying of hunger again!!
I didn't gain a pound my first trimester with DD, but man, it is not going to be the same this time if this continues. Like others, I'm worried about excessive weight gain. I'm trying to eat healthy snacks, but my body seems to want a lot of protein and fat.

My *favorite* thing to eat right now is salad with blue cheese dressing. Tastes sooooo good.

This is totally me.

I used to love salads all the time, but I am totally off them now, and the thought of one with blue cheese on it...
It's so funny how different everyone is! Right now, I am addicted to cheese, and plain food like plain pita chips. Thankfully I am really into fruits and veggies, so I just have a piece of fruit or some veggies, and then have all the cheese I want with it

Thanks, newchicagomommy for the insight and for sharing your story. I know I just need to let it go and relax and enjoy the pregnancy!

My problem is that once I start eating, I can't stop! I'm pretty good in the morning....eat enough to not be nauseous b/c I'm just not hungry, but I know I need to eat. Then in the afternoon, I begin to completely pig out until I go to bed! I can't help myself! I can't seem to satisfy my hunger or eat anything that tastes really, really good.
I agree with some of you, taste is off for me. I had my usual spinach salad with oil and vinegar that I have eaten for months and months and LOVE, but it tasted like chemicals last night. I was so upset! I love my spinach salad!

I'm the same way. Right after I finish eating and feel full, my stomach starts literally growling again! Right now I seem to be addicted to Liptons box'o noodle soup. Horrible for me I know but every night when the kids are in bed my brain starts thinking of yummy chicken with fake noodle soup.

lately I've been really addicted to salad with Kraft Italian dressing and cheddar cheese chunks on top.
This is a vast improvement over my daughter's pregnancy where I wanted Wendy's hamburgers all the time.
