Has anyone done this? How is the meat etc?
DH won;t give up meat but I always cook with less than it calls for.
Please tell me your thoughts on it.

i haven't done it yet personally, but am going to this month (pickup day we were out of town last month) and my mom has been doing this for about 2 years now and she loves it. I think their meat is average grocery store quality, nothing impressive but good if you aren't the all organic or gourmet type.

Well that is waht I wanted to hear. I prefer organic but right now I am trying to tighten the belt and this is one thing that we can do to help. I can get almost a months worth of grocerys and for sure the entire months worth of meat for under 150.00, so I am going to do it and hope for the best.
Normally we have meat that we grow on my parents farm but we were behind on raising up the next beef and hog so we are short on the meat part.
I know that the box comes with a lot of processed foods but we can make it work, I will suppliment with the fresh stuff since there is plenty of that coming into season right now, and save the other stuff that is nonperishable for when it is out of season.
I would like to hear more responses if more have them.

If you google it and go to their website you can see exactly what you are getting by clicking on the menu tab.

Ya I have that info, I was more looking for peoples 1st hand experiences with the quality of the foods.

My mom volunteers and gets their food. I don't, as we don't eat all the processed stuff they require you to buy to get the meat deals. The meat seemed to be of fairly average quality. The steaks were vacuum packed, etc.

I did notice it was quite a bit of processed food, which to be honest I don't make a lot of but do make some. I figured worst case the stuff that we couldn't make use of I could donate to the local food shelf. The meat deals seem to be pretty good and right now the food budget is one place I want to tighten up some as I have had to go to no dairy and that makes some parts a bit harder.
Thanks for the info.

The meat in and of itself is fine...Not top notch "Fresh Market" quality, but certainly decent. The steaks are pretty decent as well...once again, not super high quality, but certainly edible.

The processed foods are a downfall, however what I did was trade with other people and usually I came away w/ very little "frozen entree" or "crap in a box." And when times were really lean we ate the processed foods.

I'd rather spend $25 on food at a discount grocery store and get foods that I would actually use normally. Most of the stuff on that list I wouldn't buy. We only spend $200/month.

We do it sometimes; if the menu sounds good to us. My sister has been getting it a lot longer than us. Most things are good. My husband doesn't like a few things; but that depends on taste. We aren't getting the July menu because there are too many things on there that my family will not eat. The few things we don't eat we just donate; the same with my sister.

On the July menu we personally won't eat a couple things by my folks will use it with the kiddos. It is the meat that we are thinking will be our best bet. We spend more than I like on meats, tho I just wish that we could find a way to get the meat much cheaper else where.
We will have a hog going to the processor the end of July and then in February we have a beef going, that will help a ton!

DH just got laid off so, after learning of it on this very forum, I made my first call to Angel Food . . . one day too late. The deadline for ordering was the day before I called, and the guy wouldn't budge. Even when I told him that we just lost our main income and it would really help us out this month. Nope.

Not very angelic if you ask me.

Just checked the July menu (thanks for the link). We'll be doing it this month for sure.
