Can I buy ...

pre-felted wool, or something like it if that's not the right terminology, to make wool diaper covers out of organic wool? My DS2 gets a rash from regular wool covers like the Staccinator and Aristocrat so I would like to try to make him something myself out of organic wool, but I am a brand-new sewer and don't knit or crochet so it would have to be something simple I could sew together ... Plus if he does ok with organic wool then I could try it out with the new babe as well. I have seen the patterns to make soakers out of sweaters but haven't found any organic wool sweaters in the thrift stores yet.

Or, if this would not be my best option, any suggestions otherwise? Do acrylic or cotton sweaters do as well as wool for comfort, coolness and functionality? It gets pretty hot here in the summers and have assumed cotton or acrylic sweaters just wouldn't be as good an option, but I really haven't tried so I really don't know!

TIA!

You can't use a cotton sweater at all...cotton absorbs moisture, so it would make a nice fitted diaper, but not a very good cover.

From what I have read and heard, acrylic yarn works for knitting/crocheting soakers (covers), you just have to wash it after each use like you would a regular cover. So I would assume that a closely-knit acrylic sweater should work for a bum sweater...
