Freezing Milk Question

Thread Starter
It is much cheaper for me to get my milk from the dairy for us, it is organic and when gotten there it isnt' much more than the conventional nonorganic from the store. But they are 45 minutes away from us and I can not justify going there once a week to get the milk. So I was t hinking if I could get the milk for a month it would be much better. But I am concerned about how it will be after its been frozen. We get skim milk if that makes any difference.

One of the FAQ's on Organic Pastures website asks that, and they say it is fine to freeze. http://organicpastures.com/faq.html
My youngest loves raw milk ice cubes in his 'hot' cocoa.

It's fine to freeze. Before I went vegan, I used to do this. Because I only drank raw, local, organic milk. And the closest "local" dairy farm was 150 miles away. So, I would go and stock up for a month. The farmer told me it was fine to freeze. But, because it wasn't homogenized (or pasteurized) it might need a good shake every now and then. The coloring and taste might be slightly different too. But, not in a bad way.

We used to freeze milk all the time. If you are freezing unopened gallons you should open them and pour a glassfull off first so it doesn't burst.

Ditto Abigail. If gallon, make sure to open and dump some (drink some) first, then cap it and put it in freezer.

Honestly, I detest once frozen milk of any kind. It just doesn't taste near the same for me. :/

As one of the other posters said, "it does change the taste". Be prepared for some flavor change. My family can not stand the taste after it has been frozen.

I freeze my milk all the time and don't notice a change in quality. but my roommates do, and my milk lasts longer because of that... now a gallon actually has enough time to start to turn.

I can't drink milk plain. Ovaltine or coffee or cereal etc.

love and light,
Bryanna
