Loss of appetite?

I've had a real loss of appetite the last few days, and I'm not sure why. Last night I really didn't feel like eating dinner, even though it had been quite some time since I'd had lunch. Of course, that could have been because we were eating at DH's grandma's, and she made chicken fried steak...I'm Greek, and, um, "Okie food" just doesn't sit well with me...

Even later in the evening though, at home, I kneeeew I needed to eat, because I was feeling weak and yucky, but not hungry. Nothing sounded good, but I finally convinced myself to eat an egg. I've been doing really bad with eggs lately, like not even two a week, let alone two a day, so I was really excited that I enjoyed my fried egg!

Anyway, I'm trying to remember what exactly loss of appetite means. Is it a protein deficiency?

I don't know, Mama... Could it be another hormone surge? Maybe post on the birth professionals forum?

I'm sure everything is okay, but it never hurts to call your hcp if you're worried.

Hope you get your appetite back soon! I still have to force myself to eat most of the time but I'm seeing a little improvement.

You're right, I should just call my mw. She was my Bradley instructor the first time around, and I actually specifically remember her being the one that mentioned what a loss of appetite indicated, so I guess it really would make the most sense to call her. Duh!

Please let us know what she says!

I know it's hard to call when it's not a full-out emergency... I'm the same way, but trying to get better about it.

I'd like to know what they say too. I've felt that way on and off lately. I just make myself eat something, but I assumed it was just the heat (I never eat a lot in the summer) combined with a new stage.

Hmm, now I'm wondering...

Keep in mind too, that while in the past few weeks our babies have been growing like crazy, their growth is actually slowing down a bit now. Maybe your body is just reacting to this slower growth rate. Keep up posted on what your mw says!

Could just be the summer heat.

And actually depending on where you fall along the Nov. spectrum, you're baby could still be on a growth spurt, so you should be hungry still. They double in weight and add around 4 in. in length between weeks 16 and 19. I woke up to eat last night (only the third time this pregnancy I've actually had to eat in the middle of the night) and when I woke this morning, my stomach was growling as soon as my eyes opened even though it had only been a few hours since I last ate. But really, it could just be the heat making you less hungry than normal.

I knoooow that I haven't been eating enough though, which is weird for me, because I'm usually a very hungry person. I've been a little stressed lately too, so I guess that can be contributing to it.

BTW Googy, your EDD is my birthday! :

Maybe...it's not too hot here yet though. Sorry, I'm such a skeptic!

I'm in week 17, so you're right, I should be hungry. Actually, I did wake up at 3 am hungry, so I sat at the table and had a nice big piece of sourdough. I actually thought about posting right then, laughing about my official "pregnancy moment".

I am interested in what they have to say. I have been going through this too, on and off, but mostly on. I don't think I am getting enough good nutrition and I KNOW I am not drinking enough.

Well, she said that it is a sign of salt deficiency, not protein. That makes sense too; since I really haven't been eating enough, I haven't had much food to salt, kwim?

She also said that it could also just be that it's hot or that my body is telling me I'm full, but I know that it's not that, because I can feel the weakness in my body and that "FEED ME!" signal going off.

So, my new plan is to start every day off with an egg of some sort, with salt added to it. I'm sure that will help right off the bat, since I've just been eating a bagel in the morning...yes, I really should know better!

Off to heavily salt the chicken broth that I'm making!

I've been skipping a meal or two every day unintentionally. Just don't feel like eating much - not nauseous or anything.

And so usually I boil some eggs and eat them...just to force myself. I do get pretty hungry at dinnertime...just kind of busy during the day, I guess!

I also have days when I'm not particularly hungry. Or when the signals seem weird - I get nauseous instead of hungry, but food solves the problem. Then, the next day I might have a normal appetite, and the following day I'm ravenous. It's kind of hard to plan how much food to take with me to work!

Interesting... Thanks for letting us know. It sounds like you're very in tune with your body.

I've been forcing myself to eat 2 eggs with hashbrowns every morning and have felt compelled to put salt and pepper on it...even though I rarely eat salt and it's always sea salt when I do. Hmm... Mw wants me to up it to 3 eggs...groan...

I get the hungry nausea too; it's low blood sugar. Sometimes, if I'm being a real dope and take too long to get something in me, it gets really bad and I feel like I'm going to pass out. It's scary when that happens!

I've decided that the key is to just have enough food for you in case you are really hungry all day and just need to keep eating. I always try to bring a good variety with me, whether I'm going to work or just out. If I eat it all, great; if not, that's less I have to pack for tomorrow! It's also great practice for when you have a ravenous toddler who constantly wants to eat, and you have to pack twenty different snacks to make sure that there's enough for him to munch on while you're gone for a whole two hours. Okay, maybe that's just my toddler!

Thanks, I try, especially when I'm supporting another life growing inside of me!

Mmmm, hasbrowns, that's a good idea! I've been meaning to shred up some potatoes and start soaking them regularly for hashbrowns. That sounds like a great way to get all your potatoes in too!

Three eggs? Yikes! I'm sure she has a good reason, but I can see how that can get tiresome. I've been having an awful time trying to get in my two eggs a day. Really, I've been lucky to get in two a week... This whole salt thing is getting my butt in gear though, and it was a wakeup call that I really have not been taking care of myself or my baby!

Okay, all this talk about eggs, potatoes, salt, and protein has made me decide to see who else is on the Brewer diet, so I'm off to start a new thread!

Well, it's my biggest source of protein right now and the only meal I'm consistently able to keep down. I think that's the motivation behind increasing it a bit.

It actually runs in my family to share birthdays. My sister was born on my 8th birthday. My DD was born on my father's birthday. Our kitten was born on DH's birthday. Poor DD thinks everyone shares a birthday and gets very confused when we go to friends' birthday parties and we're only celebrating for one person!

i also have a lack of appetite going on.. i'm just not hungry in the morning, or at night.. so i try to get most of my eating done in the middle of the day. i feel like i'm forcing myself to eat, which brings up the nausea, but this baby is growing rapidly, and i have to eat something!

i'm hoping that in a few weeks, i'll actually feel ravenous LOL... i love to cook, but can't bring myself to do it much lately. hell, the kids had pancakes for breakfast yesterday, and i couldn't even muster up enough appetite to eat a freaking pancake!!! how sad

DH's family is the same way! I married into the family and now share a birthday with BIL (exact same birthdate which is kind of wierd). DD1 was born on one of dh's uncle's birthday. And there are several other shared birthdays in the family. This baby and dd2's duedates are just 2 days apart, so good chance that this one could be born on dd2's birthday.

So as not to totally steal the thread, I've been completely ravenous the last few days and am kind of envious of the lack of appetite going on here! I wake up and my stomach is growling so much that I'm very close to throwing up, and that's just minutes after waking. It sucks!

Well, I'm back to eating well again! Yesterday I kind of went overboard...I ate 112g of protein, but I only need 80-100g! I wasn't really trying to make up for anything, but I just ended up with a lot more than I thought I was taking in. If I hadn't been on a big milk kick (sorry, I'm addicted to cow's milk! , I would have stayed under the limit. I'll try to control myself today...

We don't have exact birthdays in our family, but we do have a lot at the same time. FIL, MIL, BIL, SIL, DS, and I all have our birthdays in October or November, and now this baby will be in November too! DH is the only one in the immediate family on his side that doesn't share one of these birthday months; we all celebrate our birthdays together, but DH gets his own special dinner in March, just for him.

My stepmom and my two brothers (my dad and stepmom's sons) are all born on the 18th, just in different months.

I'm like this every morning too, even on those days where appetite was an issue later in the day. I stop to pee, and then it's straight to the kitchen for me!

I felt like I was forcing myself to eat too, which is definitely not normal for me, because I just love food. So, do you think that you're eating enough? Are you getting enough salt? I upped my salt a lot Tuesday night and yesterday, and my appetite certainly came back. I'm still not ravenous, but I'm happy to eat.
