adding an outlet switch?

I'm able to access all but two of my outlets to unplug my appliances as needed for energy conservation. My dryer and stove though are very hard to reach, and the dryer is on one of those big round type plugs. I can't see the stove plug.

I'm wondering how hard it would be to add a switch to those outlets? I've got one for the dishwasher and the T.V. and it is so handy dandy!

Great idea!

Call an electrician and ask. Depending on your electrical wiring lay-out, it could be very simple.

Personally, though I am very handy around the house and can do most any type of home repair (woodworking, plumbing, etc), I would NEVER work on electrical wiring.

If you screw-up plumbing, you have to deal with a lot of water.

Screw-up electrical wiring, you may burn your house down or electrocute yourself!

Also, remember, electrical wiring needs to be up-to-code, so doing it yourself, unless you are trained, could be considered in violation!

Call the electrician and have it done correctly!

One other free idea: Check your circuit breaker box, Can you just cut the power to those individual units by throwing the switch there??? That is what we do when we go on vacation.

I agree you should call an electrician. Beyond the knowledge and experience working with something potentially dangerous - They are able to snake all these wires around so much more easily than a layperson can do it.

They give free estimates - why not just have htem come by and talk to you about it?

This is what we do. I hired an electrician to put the dryer and stove on separate circuits (some of the DIY electric work in this house was *scary*). It's easy to throw a circuit breaker and large appliances really should be on their own dedicated circuits.
