I"m doing it! I'm sticking to my budget!

I'm beating down the urge to shop....I'm staying home more (a LOT more) I'm cutting the fat.... MAN, THIS IS NOT EASY!!

I've realized I like spending money : I like shopping. There, I said it. It's the little things that are going to kill us financially, and I feel like I'm FINALLY getting a hold on it.

Here's what I'm doing, in case it's helpful to anyone. I set up my OWN bank account, only to be used for groceries, miscellaneous, clothes, shoes, anything that isn't a bill. I have $300 direct deposited into the account every two weeks from Dh's paycheck. And that is ALL I can spend. I gave dh the debit card, the cc's, everything. I wanted to do this. I want to be IN CONTROL of the money situation. No surprises. It was so easy to save money before we had a house, and now it is SO hard. And it's MY fault. Dh is super frugal. He NEVER spends money.

Let me tell you, I have learned a LOT about myself doing this. It is SO easy to blow through $300. Especially feeding 7 people, having 4 kids to clothe, etc. It CAN be done, though! I'm doing it. I'm spending $350 or so a month on food, and buying nothing that isn't necessary..... I'm excited. If I can keep this up for just one year, we will be in a much better place financially, and I know it will break a lot of my bad habits.

I just need to keep going. Must keep going....

Good job Momma!!!!

It's so hard when you start, but it really is one of those things that gets easier the more you do it (at least, that's what I choose to tell myself )

Congratulations!

One way I find that helps the urge to shop is decluttering. Start getting into decluttering and you'll start to see everything as something else you probably won't use later.

Also, I often will use the idea that I can sell something I already have and use that money to shop with if I want - so it helps control the balance - income doesn't go to shopping, and generally when selling old things to buy new you are trading three or four things for one, so the net number of things you own goes down.

it helps to be accountable and even if that means typing it here online!

Yeah, it can be hard to start it. I've been doing it for a while, and let me tell ya, now I have SUCH a hard time parting with my dollar, even for something needed. Just.can't.win.

not having a ATM or check book is a great idea! Why did I never think of that : . I always plan to stick to the budget but it's to easy to go over if I know there is money in the checking account. I really need to stick to cash only.

I'm also feeling guilty because I know that I'm spending way more money than Dh and need to learn self control.

Hey, y'all should feel free to joint us over at the monthly no-spending thread, if you haven't already. It's been great for me so far, in terms of being accountable and curbing my overspending.
