My ab muscles stretched out so much with my first that I had a permanent "tire". When I bent over or sat down there was ALWAYS a tire, no matter how many sits ups and how much exercise I did. Other friends of mine who have very very lean bodies didn't have the same issue. Some women can only "get rid of" that stretched out tire with reconstructive surgery. I have this strange notion that if the muscles don't get stretched out to high hell like an overstretched elastic, they'll regain some semblance of their original state more easily. This is what I've seen anyway. Of course, we're all different!

P.S. I might add that I was a dancer for more than 25 yrs before we TTC bb#1, so I was shocked and dismayed that my body was so flabby looking after. Now I just accept it.
