Help keeping track of inventory!

post #1 of 4

So, I'm now "officially" a gallery artist. (I just agreed to be represented by a big gallery in Houston, TX.)

What I need is a way to keep better track of my inventory. I was using an Excel spreadsheet but that system failed me completely and I abandoned it 2 years ago which means that since then I haven't updated any sort of inventory.)

Here's what I need:

* Mac compatible
* something I can keep track of multiple sizes of the same image
* a way to track who bought what, when (could be multiple buyers for the same image)
* a way to track the number of prints i have per image
* a way to know specific details about the image

FWIW, I do film based photo so don't really need to track where the specific image is.

Anyone got any ideas for me? I could only find one "art inventory" software and they wanted a ridiculous $700 for their software! I don't think I've made $700 yet!

How do you track your inventory?

I'd say you need an access database, but I don't know if it's available for macs.

It is available for macs but it's super expensive and I don't really know how to make them work (they just don't make sense to me, despite having taken a class re: access)!

I'll keep looking...

I use excel for my inventory. I also use it for grading. I know that the cc I work at offers tutorial classes on excel. You might look into taking a class to learn how to use the program, so that it can work for you. You could use open office, which has a similar program to excel- it is free and mac compatable. Apparently, google also has a free version, like open office, and you do not have to download. If you have a gmail, you can access it.
