I love it, hubby not so much. So just wondering what everyone else thinks.

I like it too- we were thinking about it until I realized Dharma from the TV show is DH's secret heartthrob....

Honestly, the first thing I think of is Dharma Initiative from the show Lost.

I like the name but it instantly brings to mind both TV references. Dharma and Greg and the Dharma Initiative that was said above.

Damn TV, ruining names...

I named my oldest Ross the same year "Friends" came out

I first thought of Darla from Angel on the WB so long ago. LOL Still though, I like it. Goodness knows LOST has taken up a lot of my time!

I instantly thought of Dharma and Greg even though I have never even watched an episode and couldnt tell you what the actors look like.

sorry for me it is one of the names that fall into the "might have been ok /. might be ok ... but not for TV"..... sorry

While I personally like the name, I voted no, because again, I think the t.v. references are too strong. I just can't see the name on a baby/little child.

ditto.

darnit i just posted a reply about names and i lost it. i think if YOU love dharma (which is beautiful btw...) and u can convince dh to go w/ it too, then GO FOR IT.

i kind of regret naming meghan "meghan jolie" but w/ my ex i was desperate for a name i loved at the time she wsa about to be born and he would NOT go w/ delaney or autumn-both of which i loved at the time. i'm surprised he went for meghan. little did he know meghan means margaret who is my grandmother i love dearly. ha ha i got mine in the end in a way didn't i. as for the Jolie part, i like angelina jolie for the most part and i thought it'd make a nice middle name. sigh...

for this baby coming i love Rowan for a girl, or Aubrey or oh what is the other one...oh...Autumn still. for a boy i like Seamus. all the mainstreames incl. family and friends are like 'huh? that sounds old fashioned.....' or 'where is that from?'. its really annoying. it is not common around here in MN. i love the name. i'd probably spell it shaemas or sheamas and call him shea for short. i like it....nice and warm and sweet and calm sounding...which hopefully he will be if he is a boy... tom seems to be going along w/ my choices...he can be nicely passive that way. unless its something way out there then he'd buck it. lol like tallulah i love but i bet he'd buck it. liam he doesn't seem to care for. as far as i am concerned if it is a boy, its Shaemas or Sheamas.

i like the way Dharma sounds...very nice.

I love it and even though TV has kind of taken an odd spin on it, I would use it anyway. It's such a cool name!

I love it. I think even though there are TV references out there you should know that Dharma & Greg is over and only in reruns, and LOST has only 3 more seasons left. By the time your little one hits her teens it won't matter anymore.

Plus, I just like the sound/feel of Dharma.

It immediately brings to mind Dharma Trading Company....playsilks, and fabric dyes!
I don't hate the sound of it it just reminds me of that sitcom Dharma and Greg so that is the only thing that I would think of (so I voted no) but if you like it and have no such association it is a prety sounding name...

you've already heard it, Dharma and Greg, is all I can think of, even though I really like the name. Maybe Dhyana :
Dhyāna in Sanskrit or Jhāna in Pāli refers to a type or aspect of meditation. It is a key concept in Hinduism and Buddhism. Equivalent terms are "Chán" in modern Chinese, "Zen" in Japanese, "Seon" in Korea, and Samten in Tibetan.

It has a similar feel, but also a somewhat traditional sound.

I like it. I think the pop culture references mean that the name will be recognized, maybe some people will even know how to spell it... but I don't think they ruin the name. Sure she may get a lot of comments from people our age about reminding them of either TV show... but that's not all bad, it makes you more memorable. When I tell people who are my parents and grandparents age my name, I always hear "Oh like from Gone with the Wind?" and that has never bothered me. People my age mostly don't have a clue. The name itself is still an awesome name, it's pretty and original without being too out there, plus it's still unique in the fact of not being in common usage by other parents.

Okay, I'm changing my vote. You convinced me Tara. I do like the name too, just was thinking it was too commercialized, but I totally agree with Tara!
