And you thought you were surprised?! - Page 2

I used to not believe it either til my aunt was having horrible gas pains, and pushed out a huge gas bubble of a baby 2 hours later in the er at age 44. Thought she was "sterile", but apparently it was her deceased husband with the problem, LOL. She was gaining weight, but by all means didnt look pg.

And, the whole anterior placenta thing puts a whole new feel to a preg. I've still barely felt anything, no matter what I try to do...

I think they mean, that they don't believe you could go all the way through pregnancy and not notice. I believe that it's entirely possible to go 20 or even 30 weeks (in the case of the other mama) but not much more than that. And the other mama here in the Dec. DDC said that she had very low amniotic fluid (thus measuring much smaller than she should have) and was questioning if she was really feeling movement at 9 weeks (yep, since she was actually more like 20+ weeks). There was something else that she noticed but she just thought she was crazy and they did suspect twins (but of course, there's only 1 much older baby).

A guy my mom worked with, his wife, honestly didn't know she was pg until she went into labor. They'd had infertility for over 9 years, did IVF, whole 9 yards were told it was impossible for her to concieve by a few different doctors...She was (is) pretty overweight and had some fertility issue where she only had 3 or 4 periods a year anyway...got very depressed after being told she'd never have children and ate a ton, gained even more weight...didn't feel movement or dismissed it as gas. Delievered a healthy baby girl.

Of course this is slightly different...lol. My friends sister had her period for the first 4 months with both of her pregnancies so who knows I suppose.

Congrats to the Dec...now August mama!!!

I totally believe it could happen... and with as uncomfortable as I am during pregnancy, I totally WISH it would happen to me!

Yeah, but maybe they live in Florida where sometimes the alligators *do* come into the sewer! No urban legend there!

I don't know, I'm 250+ lbs and I can definatly see a huge difference between regular me and pregnant me. Also the kicks don't feel like any gas I've ever had and yes too much infor but I get a lot of gas. I think its more of a case of living in denial becaus I'm a very large lady, have felt both my DS and now this little bean move around 15 weeks so I'm not sure at all that you can go that long without knowing completely. In the case of the original post its odd but still somewhat beleivable.

Well, my grandma thought it was a tumor. Now keep in mind, this is a story that is over 50 years old, so some of the details have been lost to time... I have no idea if she was around 10-12 weeks, or more like 20+. Her kids were in their mid 20s, she was in her early 40s, and thought she was going through "the change", which explained the no periods. Then she noticed her belly growing, and was quite sure it was a tumor. As family legend has it, she came home from the doctor, white as a sheet, and slumped into a chair. My aunt asked "So ma, is it a tumor?" and grandma says "No. It's worse....I'm pregnant!" And hence my mother came to be.

Stress can also distract you from pregnancy signs. I posted this one in another thread on a similar topic a while back. A friend of my mom's had a young child with leukemia. So everything is focused on this kid, and treating his illness and trying to take care of the other kids in the family, etc, etc. So mom kept putting off going to the doctor, even though she wasn't feeling quite right. By the time she got there, she was 6 months along. (btw, oldest child recovered, he's doing quite well now, in his 20s )

I know some of you don't buy it at all, but my friends sister was "sick" for months. She went to tons of doctor appointments. I would hear here talk of her concern. Then one day she told me her friend went back AGAIN to the doctors and was having horrible awful backpain. We walked in the hall to get the doctor because she couldn't handle it. And all of a sudden layed down in the doctors office hallway and delivered a baby.

I did not believe my friend at first but I have decided I should trust her and that anything can happen. Her sister is over weight. It was not her first baby and that makes it harder for me to believe, but I do believe it happened. To me it is almost as unbelievable as the minute long labors to delivery stories. I do know it happens but have no understanding of how. It just does. Everybody's body is different.
