Dyson question

We are thinking of getting a Dyson. We have 2 dogs that shed ALOT. Do we need the Animal? Or would any Dyson do? We are currently using a shop vac, which is so lunky to move around... oh how I dream of a dyson.

Any help would be much appreciated!

We had 3 dogs and we don't have the dyson animal. we have the dc14 low reach. I think it depends if you have carpet or not. If you do then i would probably go for the animal, it not i'm not sure it would matter. I have zero complaints with my dyson and we have had it for 3 years now. It is one of the best purchases ever..it really doesn't ever clog!

BTW i said "had" dogs because as a last resort we had to rehome our dogs due to dds asthma. :

I have a DC14 complete an a Lab who sheds like crazy, year round! I think mine was about 100$ less than the animal, 2 years later and I am still impressed!!

I have the DC14 animal

We have a yellow lab and 4 kids who makes lots of messes.

Its fantastic, but then so is my Rainbow.

But i must say I was very frustrated trying to figure out which Dyson to buy. I really wanted the Dc 17 Animal but bought the 14 instead being it was cheaper.

I'm hoping to get one this summer.

Well, let's rephrase that. I'm hoping we get some cash for wedding gifts to help offset the cost. Those suckas are 'spensive!

Ha- I have friends who got a lab because they thought he would not shed. Ours is a shedding machine! I can't believe he is not running around totally bald... I am glad to hear all these reviews! I tend to buy cheap pieces of crap for vacuums- maybe if I once and for all broke down and got a good one I would save money overall.

Thanks again!

We just got a Dyson Animal and I LOVE it. Our house is 3400 square feet, and about half of that is carpet, the other half is hardwood floors and tile. The Dyson gets everything! My dh changed the air filters for our a/c at the same time we got the dyson and the air is so clear and clean now.

We used a BBB coupon and got it for 20% off.

We have the DC30? We got it at Costco. It came with an animal attachment that does well. I love the Dyson! Worth the $. Doubt we'll get another one ever. The ONLY thing I wished it had was a retractable cord. But, oh well.

The Dyson brand works great. It'll suck your carpet right off the floor! Just make sure you regularly clean the filter. Every now and then have it serviced (not expensive).

I love our dyson one of our best purchases ever you will be so amazed. We got the Costco one, it was call the "full kit" it wasn't the animal but it came with the animal attachements.

I have an animal and I am amazed at what it sucks up from our carpet (major cat hair as well as loads of dust/dirt).

I seriously lucked into an amazing deal on it direct from Dyson when I tried to get one from LNT (or maybe BBB) when they were advertising a rebate and I also wanted to use the 20% off coupon at the same time, but they were out of stock everywhere and by the time they got any in the rebate would have been void. At the store's suggestion, I called Dyson just to say that I really wanted to buy their product but needed to be able to do so affordably. I had waited until a great deal came along at a retailer, but then the retailer couldn't get the item in stock from them and did they have any suggestions. They asked me details about the store deal and then extended me a "friends & family" type deal on the animal I was looking at. They shipped me a first quality beauty right to my home for a price I dare not type because it will make you all angry at me. Just something to think about if you see a fantastic deal on a Dyson but the store can't keep them in stock.

ETA: I can't for the life of me figure out how to work the attachments with the weird hose on the animal. Any tips?

They have great customer service, just call the 800# that is on the side of your vacuum. It should have came with a little booklet too.

I would. You can't go wrong with any of them though.

We were just looking for a Dyson also. We ended up getting the canister--and for the previous poster that was looking for a retractable cord, this has one. We just took it out of the box today and so far it's great.

This site gives a great comparison of all the Dysons. Essentially, the difference is in the tools.

I don't know how much a dyson is, but I love love love our Kirby. They are expensive, but I would never buy anything else - it's true when they tell you it is the last vacuum you'll ever have to buy. If you pay cash or credit card, you should be able to get them down around $800/$900. My hubby used to sell them, so I know how low you can go! They'll try to sell it full pop at $1500, but that's mostly markup. I swear by them, it does all our floors-hard & carpet, and the bed, and the car. Awesome!

Not to be one of Those People, but I'm going to do it anyhow - we got an Oreck, the hypoallergenic one, the one that runs ~299, and I cannot describe how much I'm in love. It's light, it's easy to use, the hand vac has a zillion attachments (comes free with) and is so easy to use. We have a crazy shedder and it absolutely zaps the hair, it's quite unbelievable.

I used to sell Kirby's. They get them wholesale for like $200, sometimes less. Then they sell them for $800 or more.

We originally were going to get the Ball (I think it's DC15?), but the store we were going to buy from stopped carrying them. I read reviews from people who had pets and they were impressed-our friends have the Ball and two little dogs and they said it does just great.

We ended up getting the DC17, but only because I got a great deal. The store manager knew how much I wanted the Ball (I was always calling or stopping by to see if they'd gotten more), so he really worked me a deal on the 17.

CrunchyParent-I want to know what your deal was!

Thank you for the reviews/ comparison list. It made me realize the one thing I do not like about our Dyson -- the darned handle still confuses me. I might exchange it for a telescoping handle. I thought all of them had the telescoping handle, but the 07 Animal does not, it has the old handle.
