Would you rather buy small chunks in kits to get variety for personal use, or large amounts of the same material?

Do you prefer kits or bulk material?

I am just starting, and so my answer reflects that
but I bought a few kits to get the hang of it, and a few yards of material (4 yard of PUL 1 yard of each color plus some microfleece). My thought is to do one or two in just the PUL, and then use the PUL with some matching inexpensive "walmart cute clearance" type material as an outer so that I can get some variety without having to buy kits. I dont really like fleece for waterproofing, so for me I have to have some PUL, and I'd rather not spend more on all the pieces in order to get the quality PUL component. I've had some bad luck with printed PUL too so I tend to shy away from that.
