Hey, I thought we were giving everyone the gift of a new and wonderful life for Christmas! You mean we have to shop for something ELSE, too?????

Yikes....

Baby items needed:

sling(s)
carseat(s)
glass baby bottle(s) in case of emergency where i can't nurse
vibrating or bouncy seat
gates- Will do later, decided it's not priority now
misc. childproofing items
diaper pails/bags
diaper pail deoderizing disks- thinking we might not NEED, so I'm not worried
diaper cleaning showers for toilets
sterilizer-found one at Target, just need to buy
organic baby bath/shampoo/rash ointment, etc
Humanity Family Bed-postponing for a month or so

Misc items needed:

Holiday gifts-Have most, others will get books or gift cards
Holiday cards
wrapping paper, etc
nursing bras and shirts for me
household items: tp, paper towels, etc
pads or depends for postpartum
big sister shirt and gift
Halloween costume for Pixie
Futon/beanbags, etc seating for basement playroom

Things to do:

Organize/decorate basement once it is completed by contractor
Decide what to do about baby shower/ and/or meet n greet-no one is asking about this anymore
Set up Pack n Play... find a good location
Rewash cloth dipes a few more times so they are absorbant
Cook and freeze more food (have done some already)
Write out birthplan
Pack for myself and for Pixie to stay with in-laws if needed
Decide on vax schedule-Semi-done
Call pediatrician for interview, etc (thinking of changing Pixie's ped as well)-found local ped for both kids, have to contact. Contacted ped for hospital and it is all set for early release if all goes well.
Make phone number list for hospital and for houseguests postpartum
Change cell phone plans and add another for me
Decide on a name!
Make labor CDs-DH bought iPod speaker. List is made and just needs uploaded
Tour birth center at hospital
Go to LLL meeting
Register
Look into a sibling classDecided not to do
Read "Birthing from Within" and other books rec. by my midwives
Write up laundry machine instructions
Look into postpartum herbs for baths and teas, etc.
Organize kitchen to be more user-friendly for Pixie to reach items for herself-Not very do-able since I can't bend
Install gates/baby proofing items-postponing for a couple of months

Whew!

I am doing a combo xmas card birth announcement.. I did it with both boys and it worked (although evan's came AFTER xmas since he is teh 21st but I said "happy holidays" and I had gotten envelopes all ahead and addy them so it was just stuff adn send once he was born and we got stats) Since we have more time this time I will do same but prob in form of a "holiday letter" with pic of new babe and kids and combo announce all in one!! hey, at 41 cents a pop it gets CRAZY to even send cards let alone BOTH at same time..

The combo idea is brilliant. I'm totally stealing it.

I'm late coming into this thread, but I have to get moving. Here's my first shot at a list:

*buy/make holiday gifts
*freeze more foodFreezer is packed!
*do SOMETHING to baby's room, at least a good clear-out if nothing else Bah! No one sleeps in their own room over here anyhow.
*buy a new dresser for DH and me
*refinish our old dresser for baby
Gave up on this...now we're sharing with the babe.
*make sure I have thank-you cards handy
*stock the pantry/house with consumable items
*get RRL and nursing teaThanks, again, ChiaraRose!
*make final decisions on baby's names - boy and girl
*holiday cards/birth announcements
*tie-dye baby's dipes
*check the car seat I borrowed to make sure it's still safe
*get baby's prefolds nice and fluffy
*buy a baby book and start working on it
*get a new pee-pee protector sheet
*make a belly cast with DH's help
*borrow a nursing pillow
*buy nursing pads/PP pads
*knit baby a blanket
*order mei tai once the lady I'm buying from gets the one I want in
*get baby stuff back from SIL*declutter downstairs
*sew more baby butt wipes
*steam-clean basement carpet
*book furnace cleaning
*get butt back to the gym Gave up on this. Getting butt off couch is more reasonable at this point.
*stock up on any needed baby hygiene items
*get new wet bag
*pack hospital bag Pretty much done...just adding a few odds and ends.
*make DH a phone/email list of folks to contact once baby is born
I'm sure there's more, but that's enough for now.

here's where i am! i'm a little worried about house stuff (it, like all construction work, has taken way longer than we had anticipated). hopefully owlie won't be born in a house with ripped-up floors and no place to put his/her dresser!

* get through the second round of primary research needed for dissertation prospectus
* pass urdu translation exam
* revise and hand in dissertation prospectus
* do syllabi for fall AND spring classes
* apply for disseration fellowship
* set up my arabic exam for sometime in late january and study for it as much as possible before owlie arrives (yikes).

house stuff:
* renovate sunroom (mostly andy's job) -- almost done
* replace floors in living room and study (again, andy's job)
* take neeley to vet.
* buy special new bed for neeley, to put in the bedroom.
* move living room to sunroom; move bedroom to ex-living room; set up owlie's room in the old bedroom.
* cook meals and freeze for after the birth.
* change hallway closet into linen closet
* organize, clean up, nest, etc.
* christmas presents?

We bulit this whole house around ourselves while i was pregant with Theo -- we lived on sub florr till i was 7 months along. the NIGHT I went into labor -- after i was IN LAB)OR and my water hadbroken -- Scott went to storage and got our living room stuff -- the ONLY stuff in teh house besides our BED when my folks arrived

So I guess it isn't sooooooooooooooooooo bad the list isn't done for this baby -- at least we are in a much better place than THAT.
I guess I'm not sweating things too much. In fact, I'm much more on the ball with things this time around. I figure that I have enough gender neutral stuff to get bye if the little peanut is a boy. I have a sling, boppy, nursing wear (bras, gowns, and tops), we are thinking on trying CD this time around, and I have to get a few small/newborn covers, I've done a registry online at Walmart because they have cloth diapers for a reasonable price and I figure that I can talk the grandmas into it since Walmart carries them. I just need to get the pack-n-play to the point where we're not using it as a clothes hamper so we can use it as a basanette again for nights I'm too exhausted to have the baby in the bed with us safely. I guess the only thing I really have to do is pack a bag for the hospital.

we are nowhere near in that much trouble! we only had one (non-integral) room in the house to renovate, not a whole house. so even if it never gets done, we'll be fine. however, getting it done means a whole extra room! the other main thing we're doing is putting in new prefinished hardwood over the old hardwood floors (which is easy). the room is taking longer than we expected, but it looks like it'll be done in the next week (two, tops). when that's done it's a matter of two weekends of flooring and then rearranging a couple of rooms in the house. i think we'll be done by october the latest, but it's still scary!

i shouldn't even say "we" since my husband is doing everything besides the bookkeeping!

ok the "diffent kind of reality check" has me freaked

--- son napping, now, eating too ----

I know i have 10 week left till i hit week 38 -- which is when Theo decided to join us, even if this baby cook long .. in 14 week there WILL BE a new born here.....and my OB is accepting my Conception date, not my LMP, soooo my have little wiggle room when we hit 42 weeks .

soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I am freaked.

SO today -- while rocking Theo to sleep for nap, i come to a decsion.

I already spend a lot of tiem working, what i can do with T and doing stuff at nap and after he goes to bed (if that is not too late)...but i am not crossing stuff off the BIG TO DO list...it is cuz there are always more than enough "daily chorse" to fill up the time (dishes, laundry, and so on)............soooooooooooooooooooo from now on I will eaither do one thing off my BIG LIST for before baby, or at least spend 20 to 30 minutes doing part of one, BEFORE doing my daily chores. sooooooooooooo each chunk of time i get to work, i will devote part of it to the BIG LIST -- rather than trying to get the house 100% caught up so i have time to move on to the BABY LIST.

for example.....this morning i needed to soak some of T's clothing in oxy-clean to get out some strawberry stains...i did a full sink and am soaking the Med diapers he is out of too. so i can wash them, and pack them in the box i take the small diapers out of, this weekend. so i "start" an item on my list (pack Med diapers, get out small) while doing a normal daily chore.

also..... when he went to sleep -- be fore i did anything else -- i spent about 7 minutes taking my dresses and suits out of the guest room / nusery closet and putting them in the closet int eh master bedroom. a full item to check off my list then... i went and did my normal nap time clean up, started my food and so on ... just 8 minutes.....

soooooooooooooooooooo here is the list as it stands now -- still toooooo mcuh to do ...........

Aimee, I know what you mean. I'm freaking out too. It helps me to break things down into small components and do a few each day, like you're doing. I'm also trying to focus on what I DO have done -- I don't need any more clothes, diapering supplies, slings, nursing bras, bedding or furniture, etc.

[mini-rant]
But it is making me CRAZY that I sit there on the computer planning out menus to freeze and trying to figure out who can be my back-up childcare if my mom doesn't get there in time for us to go to the hospital while my husband watches a DVD or plays video games. I have been nagging him to install a cable modem jack in the new office so that we can move office stuff downstairs and he is draaaaaaaggggggggging his feet because he can't come to terms with using his computer aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllll the way down in the basement. Preparing for the baby has become my pasttime, while he still has his own fun things to do. Aargh!
[/mini-rant]

We have therapy on Tuesday.

But I really came here to update my list... I think I can check something off.
Aimee, that same thing hit me about a week ago. This is really happening, and soon, guess I'd better actually do something about it

Not sure I'm really mentally ready, but plan to be set by 36 weeks, just in case, so I'm working on it.

Here's where I am now
1) get rid of all the boys clothes found a local big baby sale I'm doing, yeah!
2) get ds2 totally out of diaps nearly there!
3) figure out and get holiday gifts for all out of state family and hopefully kids too started
4) find a place for pack and play downstairs for safe baby napping spot rearranged, this should be good now
5)Get some small cloth diaps, went through mine, have a ton of NB, and M, but no smalls to speak of
6) get sling, diaper bag local mom I like might make these at a great price, and they'd either match or go together, won't see her till next month though
7)last thing, bring down and set up cradle and pack and play
8)socks
9)
glass bottles
10)long sleeve shirts for 0-3m -maybe, waiting to see I think
11)baby book, found it, now have to get it
12)pack hospital bag
13)install car seat (not till late Sept, have to use the space in the van before then)
14)nursing bras. I'm bigger than ever lol, so the one I had left isn't going to cut it
Ok, I feel much better, my list is shorter than it was at least
post #98 of 162
in keeping with my -- do a little every chance you get approach -- i wahsed the med diapers once last night, after soaking them all day, and once this morning. I will dry them twice and by tomorrow they will be ready to go in to the rubber maid container i take the smalls out of.

this morning -- Theo refused to get off my lap -- so i decided if i had to sit i would sit ont he nusery floor and sort clothing. we pulled out the two tubs of 0 to 3 and 3 month clohting, including the preemee clothing and sorted it. some of it is baged up as special for T -- his first christmas, his coming home, his first easter and a couple of others, though wen't back in the tub with all the really boy stuff. i went though all the GN stuff -- MOST of it -- and pulled out anything staied so i can try to clean that up.

today i want to get the 0 to 3 into the baby's dresser, tomorrow i will get the small diapers into the changing table (drawer already cleaned out). in late Sept i will pull them out of the drawers and wash and dry them -- i feel now is a bit too soon (?).

When i pull out the small diapers, i will take any that are stained, or dingy, and try to clean them up now too -- like with the clothing.

I have a drawer of stuff in theo'd dress (burp clothes, nurseing pads) that i need to inspect, clean up and move to the nusery and the babies dresser too.

(theo's dresser need to be reorgized too.... buttttttttttttttttt every taks can lead to 4 more taks if you let it).

When T sleeps i HAVE to go though the files for some medical / insurence bills -- otherwise i would SLEEP -- I have been awake since 2 am. 2 to 6 T had me awake -- he was mostly asleep but soooooooooooo restless i had to keep holding him, or rubbing him and so on ... then at 6 DH wanted DTD.

Aimee
ok I got out the 2 tubs of 0 to 3 months clothing, sorted out the stained stuff.

I was putting the other stuff in the dresser to wash in Spet -- and STOPPED myself from being REALLY STUPID : : I was trying to do it all nice and orgized -- really small onies here, sleepers, here, pants, here and so on ... duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i am going to pull it all out fo the drawer and wash it month sooooooooooo why go to that much effort NOW soooooooooooo i just dumped it int he dresser for now -- i will orgize after it is washed. ahhhhhhhhh glad i caught myself

I also got out the small diapers and put int eh changing table, i will wash them in Sept too. I do want a few more -- ok i want a lot more, accidt here, but i can see using a few more... but i will wait till the new year, and i see the gender, before i buy any more. i have other things to spend baby money on now.

So the Med diapers out pf the dryer and in to the tub and in to the closet and i will have 3+ items off my list done today alone -- and by 5 pm none the less.

we need a smilie wipeing her brow going 'whew" or "ahhhh"

today has been a good day

Dh promised after Labor Day he will knock off his obsession with landscapeing and turn to MY list of house stuff (shelf in laundy room, more tot locks, shelves in nusery...). I can live with that.

We are going to host a halloween party too a bunch of the people in Scott's office have kids Theo's age or younger .... and I might invite our birth class -- we've had two reunions so far. ............ now as long as i am not at the hosptial the Saturday before Halloween :
Starting my list....this is a really rough draft right now though.

1. Contact the LC Jennifer
2. Buy a hazelbaker or lact-aid
3. go through pump stuff and see what's still usable and what parts need replacing
4. figure out how to organize all diapers with an over the door thing
5. install bedroom window and bathroom locks; babyproof dresser drawers
6. earthquake-proof furniture
7. set up bassinet
8. make sure I have enough nb covers
9. create a clothing system for toddler and baby
10. enroll Edgar in musicrhapsody and another toddler group
11. figure out childcare
12. pack for hospital, and bring bottled water so you don't have to keep asking the nurse for water
13. reread Bradley book and SM
14. go to an LLL meeting
15. buy gripe water
16. have the house stocked with easily accessible snacks
17. sigg bottle
18. research and purchase big bro book
19. research announcements

That's it so far.
