once again, looking for midwife or doula in central MO

a few months ago i posted, wondering how to find a midwife. we finally found one(she is a lay midwife) but now, 3 mo & 2 weeks before due date she has backed out, due to personal reasons. we had such a tough time finding a midwife that would come out to us that i am now wondering what to do. my partner and i have tossed around the idea of going it alone, but we both have slight reservations since this is our first (not completely opposed though). So, now, we are thinking of a doula but, once again, i'm wondering if we can find one that will come all the way out to us.

for those who asked last time what my location was: i am a little over 1 hour from jefferson city and columbia, and about 30 minutes from sedalia (south of hwy 50). there was a doula from columbia that responded before, however i have since lost her info. if you have suggestions we welcome them!

A birth center opened its doors in Columbia recently. They have a Family Practice doc who does homebirths and I believe the midwives do as well. Try contacting there. The birth center might be an option, or one of the practitioners at your home or they could point you in the right direction.

I know there is a laymidwife in the area of the Lake as well.

Thanks for your response! I'll try the new birth center and see if anyone there does homebirths(when we originally started looking I kept getting the same response...we were too far or they didn't do homebirthing).

The problem in my area is that one midwife goes to Mexico (the country) in the summer, one midwife recently stopped delivering for personal reasons, and now, the one we had isn't going to do our delivery.

If you know the name of the woman near the Lake I'd appreciate it if you'd send me an e-mail and let me know who she is or how I can reach her.

I believe that the woman at the lake and the woman that goes to Mexico are one and the same. Do you know her? She is very approachable - give her a call and see if she has any recommendations. But there are definately people in Columbia doing homebirths - if they will travel to you.
