Hypnosis in birth

I am wanting to do some sort of birth hypnosis for my next birth... however, I'm not sure which one to go with: HypnoBirthing, HypnoBabies, or HypBirth -- or something else I don't know about yet. Each one has proudly displayed glowing testimonials of course :
but I'd like some input from those who've used them. Did you like it, and why did you pick that one?

Also, doing a class isn't going to work for us so it has to be one that offers a home study course.

TIA!

I did hypbirth and well, it almost worked TOO well.
Labored at home for 7 hours and was SO focused, DH couldn't tell when I was having ctx... no real pain (pressure though) until I started throwing up and DH went "WHOA, transition already?" (but didn't express that to me, I was so "in the zone" I didn't recognize it) and hustled me to the birth center(yea, yea, no homebirth for me). The only pain was when I was standing waiting to lie down at the center where I was HOPING to be at least 5 cm.

my midwife "umm. 9cm. no 9.5... bulging bag of... oops, broken bag of waters"

13 minutes later. My 9lb 8 ounce babe was born!!!

all done on CDs and I "picked" this particular system because.... a friend of a friend described her BLISSFUL birth to me and sold me the kit cheap!!

which reminds me, I need to get all the pieces together and sell mine at some point

There is a hypnobabies yahoo group that is open to all women interested in using hypnosis during birth regardless of which program you use. The mamas there have some great btdt advice on different systems since many have used different birth prep and different hypnosis programs with different births.

And since some programs are going to suit different personalities/birth hopes it's a great idea to ask around and compare!

You could search the yahoo groups page or I think there is a link from the Hypnobabies website.

I used hypnobabies home study for my vbac (see the birth story in my signature for details on how it worked for me) and really enjoyed it...it helped me release a lot of fear during the pregnancy, and the nightly cd sessions were a wonderfully soothing "cure" for insomia! Then during the birth the post-hypnotic suggestions worked perfectly...my birth was hard work but hypnobabies is designed to let mamas stay deeply relaxed and in a hypnotic state while moving around and talking and using different positions. And it worked!

I'll use hypnobabies again for any future babes...

happy birthing!

I did hypnobabies, and the home study course was very comprehensive, lots of good cds...(they need to hire me to edit/proofread the book, tho! puctuation INSIDE quotation marks... and semicolons, not comma splices! ) I had discomfort but very do-able, and pushing was... fun!

I used Hypnobabies for my 2nd. I enjoyed it, it helped w/ insomnia and nausea, and made a noticeable difference during my labor, which was still a far cry from painless.

I have both the Hypnobirth home study kit and the Hypnobabies home study kit. I liked the Hypnobabies better -- just much more comprehensive, IMO.

I used it daily during pregnancy, and felt my pregnancy was made more comfortable by it. I didn't have a pain free birth, however.

I have a friend who specializes in hypnosis for childbirth (she also works with anxiety issues as well) and I worked with her. I don't know a lot about the programs out there, but self-hypnosis really worked to helpme focus and let my body do what it needed to do. I practiced throughout my pregnancy and continue to do some of the exercises she taught me when I start to get to "wound-up".

Just lurking...

I've been thinking about hypnosis during childbirth or one of the hynobirth programs. But I have wondered if it help with abnormally painful labors (ie-where you feel like your dying). I'm going to check out that yahoo group...thanks for the suggestion wombatclay

This sounds ideal for me, since I will be staying home for the birth. Thanks for the input!
