DS just went in for heart surgery a half hour ago. I posted a thread in TAO about it, I'll copy and paste for those who don't have access to TAO.
Please please keep him in your thoughts.
My 2 week old son was having some breathing difficulties yesterday afternoon so our HB MW stopped by to check him out and his HR was 170-200 and his breathing rate was 96. Normal is under 170 HR and under 60 breathing. So the MW told us to bring him in to be evaluated. We brought him to the hospital and they said he was ok and were ready to send us home but DH and I persisted and DS crashed shortly after that. His lips went blue and his breathing was really labored.
DS was transferred by a med team to All Children's hospital (2 hrs away from us) at 1:00 am last night. At 5:00 am we got the news that he has a heart defect. At 8:00 am this morning they took him in for surgery. We're told the surgery has a 9 out of 10 chance for success and if it is successfull he will live a normal life. Surgery takes 6-8 hours. So now we're waiting. The problem is that the left atrium valves never connected to the left chamber of his heart so his lungs were getting full of blood and the right side of his heart swelled from being overworked. None of this was detected at the 18 week u/s or his post partum pedi visit.
Please keep us in your thought and/or prayers. I am so afraid right now. I wanted this baby for so long and I don't know what I'll do if I lose him.
