oh jillian, I can't believe I just found this thread. I did see the updates and it sounds like some of the initial scariness is over but my heart and prayers go out to you and your family.

TAO has a number of posts/time as a mdc member limit so some mamas wont have access yet...

Basically Jilian said the surgery went well, they were able to get him on the heart/lung machine ok...then the bypass and surgery itself went well...and they were able to close his chest after the operation (some babes have too much swelling to close right away). He is on a vent and has good oxygen saturation. His heart seems to be working the right way too! But he's in the ICU on a lot of medications...

Jilian said it's possible he could come home is 2 weeks or so, and that the staff at the hospital has been great...getting her a pump and setting them up at the Ronald McDonald house.

So more healing thoughts, prayers, candles, vibes, hopes, and wishes needed!

I haven't been around that long & have less than 200 posts, so it may be another problem people are having. Unless you are a Newbie, you should be able to get in (60 days & or 50 posts?)

I started a care page to update on Evan's progress. If you go to carepages.com and register then you can view his page by typing in EvanTaylor (just like that no spaces). I'll update it as often as I can. Evan is doing really well, he started to move a tiny bit tonight because they took him off the meds to paralyze him. He's a strong little guy.

oh, im so relieved that hes doing alright! thank you guys, and especially jillian for the updates! keep us updated, k? im so sorry you and your family and especially little evan have to be going through this! sounds like youve got quite a tough little guy there

Jilian- I am so happy that Evan is making progress. it's amazing how fragile & strong a baby can be (guess that goes for us grown-ups too).

I updated the carepage they finally let him eat today. Tomorrow is gonna be a scary day because they are removing the wires that connect to his emergency pacemaker. They are knotted and sitting right inside his heart. They pull them out very gently but there is a chance of a severe bleed - so as a precaution they need to order a few bags of blood and have a surgery team on standby. If he bleeds it will drain through his chest tube and they will give him blood and he will be immediately rushed back into the O.R. to have his chest opened back up. The chance is very small that this will happen but I'm still scared as hell about the procedure. Then after it is done, it has to be done again in 4 more days for the arterial lines they have measuring the pressure on his heart. This is all so crazy.

oh jilian - i only just saw this. my heart goes out to you. how utterly terrifying. i am so glad his condition has such a good prognosis, and i am so impressed that you and your dh stood up for him and got him the care he needed.

please take gentle care - we are all thinking of you and sending love your way.
