The article is pretty good, but check out this gem from Dr. Laurence S. Baskin, chief of pediatric urology at UC San Francisco:

"I'm not going to buy the argument that it's brutal," Baskin said. "There's a general anesthetic involved, so they're not going to experience any pain, because they're asleep. And afterwards, with good nerve blocks, they basically do fine."

Baskin also dismissed the argument that circumcised men experience less sexual pleasure because of the loss of foreskin. "I think that's been pretty much debunked by a number of articles in the British Journal of Urology and the Journal of Urology." Regarding men who endeavor to restore their foreskin in their adult years -- Web sites are devoted to the practice -- Baskin said, "In my mind that would go under the heading, 'Get a life.' "

A general anesthetic? Debunked sensitivity issue? Get a life?

UA VIOLATION, UA VIOLATION, UI VIOLATION galore!!!!!!!

But that's not true! This ignorant person has noooooo business stating lies as facts, since he CLEARLY doesn't know! If he DID know, he'd know it's like putting a minor "pain reliever" on ONE area. As far as I know, there's NO post-surgery pain relief given! And the recent study about circumcision decreasing sexual sensitivity has gotten national press coverage on Fox News' website!

If what's he's saying is true, oh, then (((I))) was fully awake and pain-free when I got 4 teeth extracted in 2 years!!!!!!!!

Could Baskin have possibly been misquoted? He sounds like he's talking about adult circ (GA, pain meds, etc) and debunking the myth that it's so much harder on an adult. Could the quote just be from the wrong question??

Since when do they put newborns under a general anaesthetic?

This guy is either talking about an adult circ or out of his a$$. Probably the latter, he's probably seeing his yacht payments disappearing down the toilet.

"It's a choice parents make".

Ugh.... Dammit, I think forked tongues are prettier and sexier, so I am having my children's tongue's forked at birth...it's a choice I'm making as a parent.

This is all pure idiocy.

That's what I was thinking. That or he thinks infants get it b/c when he a urologist does he uses anesthetic b/c as a urologist he does it on older patients but doesn't realize that when the OB does it he doesn't use anesthetic.

He also said this though

In the past it was part of the package: You had a boy, he was circumcised and you would be sent home with a car seat, and that was it.
and that's not quite accurate back in the '60s my mom brought my sister home rapped in a blanket on her lap. The hospital did not give her a car seat.
