Lyme Disease treatment and BFing?

The doc thinks I have Lyme Disease -- we're still waiting for the test to come back, but he said I will have to take doxicycline and that I will have to stop nursing! I'm not sold on this doc's advice and if the test comes back + I will get a second opinion. Just wanted to check in with you all to see if anyone has had experience with this.

Thanks!
Amy

Doxycycline IS the preferred treatment, and we don't want to nurse with that, but there ARE alternative Lyme Disease treatments which ARE OK with nursing, such as Amoxicillin 500mg by mouth every 8 hours.

thanks

Yes, I've since been to a different doc. Still waiting on results, but it now seems I have ehrlichiosis, another tick borne illness. For this one doxycyclene is the ONLY treatment. Great. Not sure what to do except wait for results.

I found this:
Again, the drug of choice for treatment is doxycycline; chloramphenicol and rifampin are alternative treatments.

So, it's not the only treatment, but I doubt the others are any better for breastfeeding. Sigh. How long do you have to take it? How old is DC? Can you get some donated milk and resume breastfeeding when the antibiotics are done?

i was just dx wi th lyme and have been taking 500 mg of amoxicillin for a week -the antibodies test showed positive for lyme and rocky mountain spotted fever so they want me to stop nursing my 19 month old and take doxycycline for 3 weeks .
I looked up on the search and found at least 2 references that say it is ok to nurse with the med for short term -less than 3 weeks .
put in doxycycline and breastfeeding .
i am unsure of switching antibiotics because my rash is improving and i9 have not had a fever or other bad symptoms only a rash in 3 places -typical bullseye and a stiffness in my fingers in the mornings..,maybe a bit tired but no worse than usual.
