what's next?

hi everyone, i'm brand new to this forum but i have been a mothering mag subscriber since before our son was born...

our son wylie is 1 year and 1.5 weeks old... and i am starting to be curious about what everyone is doing after their baby stops breastfeeding. Wylie is still bfing and we have no intentions of stopping anytime soon ... but my milk recently had a huge dip (i think due to my period returning... woo-hoo: 1 yr & 9 months of no period was great!)

but, it got me thinking about what he will drink once we stop bf-ing... cow's milk? goat milk? soy milk? something else? i'd love to hear from some moms who have done research or who have actually entered that phase.

thanks so much
melissa & wylie

You might have more luck posting in Toddlers.

I'm not sure what we will do, DS is 13 months. I know we will not do soy milk - or any other processed soy products beyond an occasional treat. There are many studies indicating that processed soy protien is not good, especially for children. You can easily do some research on google to find out more.

At this point I'm thinking organic cows milk. Goats milk is good too - I'm not really sure about all the pros/cons and differences. I'm just thinking price and avaliblity. My intention is to give milk at meals and water the rest of the time. Juice as an occasional treat only.

we did goat milk for a long time since its easier to digest. now ds1 drinks soy. he still can't tolerate cow's milk.:
