We will be working on the road. I will do photography and decluttering/organizing homes and Matt will do handyman type jobs, and other odd jobs. We have some money saved, but we will be working too.
We just gave notice on our apartment today...so there is a cute apartment for rent in Bozeman...who wants it?

When you saw you would be looking for places to stay, do you mean in other's homes or to park your RV?

Tracy...
We'll be looking for places to park our "home"

We are fully contained though, so it can just be a backyard or driveway. Did you contact me already...I have a Tracy in Philly...is that you?

I answered this in the first question/quote...but I will tell you that it's the #1 question we get asked!

It's somewhat of a foreign concept for people to believe that a life can made on the road...but people do it all the time everywhere. There is actually a network of people who RV full time and there is an organization called Workamper and they help people get jobs. Luckily, we already have some specialities...so that helps.
We don't know what we will do as she gets older...we REALLY like to nomadic life

But we will just take it year by year. There are many benefits to both ways of life. We are homeschooling, so that isn't a big hurdle either. Traveling and experiencing different people and regions is the best education!

There is soooo much oil in this country to be had...it's ridiculous. Nearly EVERY restaurant has a grease trap. We found about 7 bins in 10 minutes in Kansas City. I'll write more about our experiences in "hunting oil" on the blog. Stay tuned

ETA: Oh, and if you might be considering some consulting, I have work for you in CT! We will soon be renting a small apt. and I have no idea where to start..

Yes...there are some limiting factors for some people. You should just do small roadtrips during vacations!

Definitely contact me about consulting...that will be one of my services offered so I can work on the road. Send me a PM!

I'm totally wanting to convert an old diesel to run on veggie oil. Do you have issues with gasoline taxes? I read somewhere about a guy getting arrested for using the roads and not buying gas (gas is taxed for road maintenance). I'm curious as how to avoid that issue!
|
You should DO IT!! And go with
Golden Fuel Systems. They are fantastic. Be sure to mention our names so that we get "credit" for the referral. I really do love their team...they are all very eco-minded. I had great conversations with their office manager...she is very "green"! There is a special for my blog readers on their
DVD's...you can get free shipping if you call your order in and mention our name. The DVD's are basic, so that even someone with no knowledge of engines can understand it.
Yes, the taxation publicity stunt has been all over the news lately, but they are isolated incidents. I spoke with Charlie, the president of Golden Fuel Systems about that topic and he explained it well. There are basically no regulations for veggie oil vehicles...so they are treading on new ground. The tax "enforcers" are basically picking on people who are doing GOOD things for the environment...there are state senators even saying how foolish it is to tax someone for doing the very act that the state is encouraging (leaving a lighter footprint). I'm not worried about this...there are thousands and thousands of people driving with WVO/SVO everyday. And there are tons of veggie-oil educational tours that have been going on for years. It's just silly. Even if they made us pay the tax...it's something like 18 cents a gallon. I would pay that over $3.50 a gallon

I am curious how your parents/ILs react with each of your moves? Not that its anybody's business but yours, just curious. Our families just wouldn't understand. I would do what you're doing in a heartbeat.

Yes, a bit sad. But I know that there are many other fabulous apartments out there that I can have later. I can find a cool apt. anyday...I can't travel the U.S. anyday

The RV will be remodeled before we go for sure. I'm planning on installing new sustainable flooring, making new curtains, painting with eco-paint...etc.
Our parents are super supportive. We're very lucky...

I answered this above...but just wanted to add that even if we did have to pay $2500 to continue collecting WVO...I would still do it. Someone has to pave the way. There will eventually be legislation passed exempting people who are driving earth-friendly vehicles.
