We're going even smaller...RV Living! - Page 3

I found out from my husband last night that the Federal Goverment is cracking down on veggie users for road taxes. We have a friend who is taking all the veggie insignia's and such off his vehicle because of it.

We currently run biodiesel but are considering going veg.

This makes me : ! The government talks a good game about lessening U.S. dependence on foreign oil, but then wants to tax those who are finding alternatives? How ridiculous. In fact they should give tax credits to those who are using alternative/biofriendly oil, showing that they (gov officials) are backing the "enviormental talk" that they dish out to the media. Unfortunately I'm not suprised by this, what a shame (ok, rant over ).

Delight, on your tour please stop by Iowa City, we will be moving there this summer. Have fun decorating the RV .

Sara, just wondering-while on the tour will you guys visit different churches? What are your plans in keeping your spiritual life active while on the road?

have a wonderful time! one of our goals is to at least part-time. I'm wondering now after reading this if the Newmar Allstar could be converted to veg? must find out.

anyways, you probably have this already, but be sure to check out http://www.rvfamilyfun.com/ for reviews of campgrounds and other drydocks for those times you can't find a friend to stay with...

You know I totally stalk your blog. It keeps me from decluttering my own life, I'm so addicted to it.

How are you guys able to do this? We have to stay in one place for DF's 9-5 job. We couldn't break a lease contract, either. Are you subleasing?

Have you read Travels with Charley? It's the ultimate tour-the-country-in-a-camper book, by John Steinbeck. He named his camper Rocinante, after Don Quixote's horse.

We will, of course, go to church wherever we are on any given Sunday We look forward to worshipping with others in wonderful new churches. Keeping our sprititual life active on the road is more of a daily, ongoing thing for us though...not just going to church on Sunday. We will continue to have time daily with the Lord, no matter where we are.

If it's diesel, it can be converted.

We are blessed in that we are "job"-free I do photography and Matt does whatever work is available. He has done many things in his life, so he's pretty versatile...he's been in upper management, retail, construction, he's a musician, he ran a non-profit/ministry...pretty varied. I'm sure we'll "settle" down again someday...and life won't be so flexible. BUT...as it is, we are pretty free. And we're going to take advantage of it while we can

We are getting out of our apt July 15. We only had a 6 month lease anyway. We try to NEVER sign a lease if possible and only rent from private individuals...so we are not tied down. But the owners are working with us since we did so much updating to the property. He works for them doing maintenance as well, so it worked out well.

I haven't read Travels with Charley, but it's on my list. As is Walk Across America and all the other great on the road books!

I was wondering how much you would charge for your interior decorating/decluttering consulting for a one bedroom apartment? Your adventures sound like a lot of fun.

That sounds.....amazing. I'm a bit jealous, but in a good way =) My situation makes anything remotely like that impossible, but the freedom you're getting is so crazy wonderful! I'll be keeping tabs on your blog and posts and living vicariously through you

You guys are amazing! Let me guess. In a few months you'll downsize to a van and then to a station wagon and then to a mini cooper.

So I have to ask, how does your daughter do in the RV -- does she need to be in a carseat or is she free to roam about? My 2.5 year old barely tolerates being in the car for a trip to the grocery store.

Decorating, organizing, downsizing, consulting etc. is $50/hr. with a 2 hour minimum. I am always up for trading/bartering as well.

You're silly But it is true...we do keep going smaller. I don't think we can go much smaller than this though...maybe a tent? It's crazy because as soon as we got back to the apt. after being in the RV for a bit...I looked around and thought "this is HUGE!".

Bella does really well in the RV. She is buckled in at all times except to get up and go to the bathroom (with me) or to get ready for bed, put pj's on, etc. We even brush teeth in the carseat

We have tons of things to entertain. Books, stickers, movies, balls, musical instruments, coloring, playing count the campers on the road

She has a whole cupboard of goodies right above her seat. After a really long day, she gets antsy, but for the most part, she really loves it. She is able to see out all the big windows and that helps a lot.

How cool! I have to admit I've had this fantasy many times but I'm not ambitious enough to make it happen - and oh yeah, I can't even imagine my husband agreeing to it. But have a great time and know that you are living the dream for so many others!

We're working on that We have listed most of the tour cities on the site...the timing is still developing. We will head East up to Maine first...down the coast, then across the south, and up the West coast next spring/summer. That's about as much as we have figured out. More details to come soon.
