Is it possible?

I would love to make a Waldorf doll for my DD. How hard is it for a novice seamstress?

I'm okay with a sewing machine...I've made my own clothes, some hooded towels for DD, table linens, nothing fancy.

I'm not quite as handy at hand-sewing. Probably comparable to a grade eight home ec student.

But I can knit...really well. So I'm not hopeless at handicrafts in general.

Please tell me if this is possible!

You should try it. You sound as if you would have no problem with it, even though there is a lot of hand sewing involved. It's not hard, at all and your child will love what you make no matter how it turns out. I like this company because Amy Prentiss gives such great cutomer service and will help you through it- www.dancingraindolls.com She carries all the best materials and everything you need to be successful.

Also. www.weirdollsandcrafts.com is a wonderfu company, too with a wide variety of kits- the bunting baby is the easiest to start off with.

Good luck with it- it's so much fun and so satisfying, you will be hooked in no time.

It sounds to me like you're already good with your hands: I think you'd be great at making a waldorf doll! They are so fun to make, you'll really enjoy it.
A kit may be a good place to start: you can just get all the components for the doll pre-packaged (fabric, wool batting, pattern, stockinette, etc.) so you don't have to try and figure out all the supplies on your own.
I love weir dolls and Joy's Waldorf dolls. I have never bought anything (yet!) from dancing rain dolls but I always look wistfully at her website. I love the faces on her dolls, and my six year old is mesmerized by her dolls and their clothes, hair, etc.

It sounds like you'd have no problem with it. I second the recommendation for starting with a kit - so you have all the materials and everything.

I'm in no way a handy sewer, but I had great luck with a pattern from weir dolls. I've also purchased a pattern from Dancing Rain - their website is a bit funny, it doesn't load well for me for some reason, but the pattern is super easy to read and the materials look beautiful. I'm excited to get working on it :-)

Enjoy your doll making adventure. It becomes a bit addictive after a while
