Last time the only things I wanted were watermelon and popsicles .

But it was July and HOT and I wanted something that I didn't have to focus on chewing/swallowing. I did have some veggie soup too but that didn't last very long.

I hear honey is good (for energy) and I'm going to try that, will get popsicles and fruit maybe, iced tea and raspberry leaf tea for when I'm in labor of course. Not sure what else to have on hand, I'm going to have to cook up a storm when the kitchen gets done, so we'll have lots of stuff in the fridge for after the birth.

Banana, carob almonds or chocolate chip trail mix, Smart water or Vitawater with mag. and B vit.s, maybe some toast with almond butter and honey, homemade fruit juice popsicles. Chicken noodle soup after the birth. These are a collection of things I liked for past births, along with some ideas for next month's birth.

Last time I only drank apple juice. I didn't feel like eating anything during labour at all, and I only drank the apple juice because my midwives insisted. I did eat some watermelon before active labour started (like, before I even knew that I was in labour), but it didn't stay down during transition. Sorry if that's TMI.

Anyway, if I may suggest, plan on small, easy-to-handle snacks like popsicles, granola bars, maybe fruit. Bottles or boxes of fruit juice are good too.

Granola, grapefruit, lemons (my biggest pregnancy craving), and maybe malt-o-meal with brown sugar and milk. The last might be too heavy, but immediately pp it sounds like a hearty, digestible meal.

Now if only labor would start, so I could find out....

I wasn't in the mood to eat but my midwife and doula insisted, so every once in a while someone came at me with a spoon of something and I didn't argue it. I had watermelon, mango, chicken soup (my doula made it from scratch in early labor, and it was yummy!! I only had a couple bites though, go figure. I should ask what she put in it..) and at some point I needed protein so I might have had a piece of lunch meat or something? and like a tiny piece of cheese on a cracker, lol. and to drink, RRL tea, gatorade, vitamin water, emergen-c, and fresh juice (orange/apple) from our juicer.

Smoothies.... esp if you are at a hospital, you can pretend they are for DP and sneak drinks to keep you nourished!

I puked all through labor, so I focused mostly on juice and gatorade.

plain yogurt mixed with peanut butter.

EmergenC packets to mix with water.

I ate scrambled eggs during early labor last time, and snacked on granola later on. I bought smartwater to drink, but for some reason, in labor it tasted just awful

All I really wanted when I was in labor was mango juice. I had a cheese quesadilla early in labor, when I figured I probably wouldn't want to be eating soon and I was hungry.

everyone is mentioning sweet things and juice and I just read in Goer's "thinking woman's guide..." that sweet things will make you nauseous. I had a hopsital birth last time and shortly after getting there I downed two glasses of juice and immediately threw them up all over the floor.

... it really put me off for eating anything else the rest of the time.

This time I am planning on instant mashed potatoes (just sounds good), and someone mentioned bananas- they sound good to me too. Maybe some honey sticks for energy.

the cheese quesadilla sounds familliar! I had mexican with in early labor w/dd. It was really good!...wasn't even so bad coming back up in transition (sorry, I know, TMI...)...

Had barbeque in early labor w/ds.

Had bananas, oatmeal, cream of wheat, applesauce with both of them in early active labor. Once I hit hard labor, though, I pretty much don't want food anymore. I do drink water like it's going out of style the entire way through, though.

I had lots of labor snacks all prepared last time and I puked it all up. One thing I appreciated were glucose tablets (buy them at the drugstore). I can't remember if they're were totally natural - probably not - but it was the only thing I could keep down in the end.

I am going to be making home made granola bars this week, hopefully we will have a couple left once the time comes! I also keep sweet green peas in the cabinet at all times, just in case!

Yeah that's the problem I had - I had all these yummy things to eat/drink but then in labor everything smelt and tasted awful.

If I were to do it again, I have some food prepared but I'd also have more concentrated, low volume nourishment in case of puking.

With my first baby, I wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything (the hospital had tons of rules regarding that). When I had my second baby at a birth center, the midwife encouraged me to eat and drink to keep my energy up.

I packed granola bars, Gatorade, popsicles, Earth Mama Angel Baby Labor Ease Tea, bananas, yogurt, and Cherrio's. I wasn't that hungry, but was very thristy, so I drank more tea and Gatorade than anything else. I also packed a couple of those Preggie Pops, but didn't use them.

I like that idea of having your partnet sneak food in to keep your energy up when laboring in a hospital. I'll have to remember that for next time LOL!

I only drank water. Was too hot and I had just finished a HUGE meal when labor started.
