very slick- it isn't something that cuts into the cord
it doesn't take tying , it is soft and doesn't irritate the baby

one draw back you do need to sterilize more than one band because one can break . another drawback is that if you when you cut the cord you have to have it clamped where it is going to be banded -- and if you are a very busy midwife you will need 2 banders so there will be time to sterilize between births- there are some bands that you are attached to a stick-- works similar but you use forceps to apply

I prefer the bands designed to be used with normal hemostats. My clients get them in their birth kit and I keep an extra or two on hand incase one breaks. you can see them at www.sterifeed.com.

I've only used mine twice so far but I really love it and so did the moms.

I love mine - but I have to admit that I do not sterlize the bands. Even when I was using cord tape, I didn't use the individual sterilized pkgs - just a spool of non-sterile.

I just used a cordring which is almost the same as a cordbander without the bander. You just need forceps, it was easy to use and cheap 1.25. I got mine at birthwithlove.com, there is even a diagram on how to use.

I have decided not to sterilize the bands either from the research i did on them it seems just as safe and way easier than trying not to melt them.
