very simple baby-doll clothes for me and my 5 y o to make?

are there patterns available, or we need to just improvise? i think i figured out how to make pants, but when i think about tops, i get stuck not sure what to do with sleeves. can i make them one piece? like a T-shape?

dd really wants to make some clothes, and what i found on line was way too complicated for us.

also, what would you tell your child if she kept saying that what we are making is not like store-bought? she keeps expecting that we will make the same sleepers and pjs as the dolls came in (but many are from good will, so they came 'naked'), and i am not on that level of skill

Tee shape is good- use knits if you can find them. They are so much easier to fit.

Let your dd pick out the fabric. This will help her get over the "store bought" issue. There are lots of simple clothing patterns out there for purchase. The big pattern companies have lots in the crafts section. This is such a great way to introduce a child to the love of fabric, sewing and design. Bravo to you!

Fleace is quick to use since it doesn't fray so no need to hem. I've been making dolls clothes for DD doll from old clothes we have around.

What size is the doll? There are free baby clothing patterns available which you might be able to shrink to fit a large doll. I haven't found many free dolls patterns though.

I find that DD likes to have all the little accessories like bibs, nappies, hats etc.

What is it you DD is liking about the bought clothes? Maybe buy some little bows or fancy buttons to sew onto the ones you've made. You could even make a couple of plain white things and give her some fabric pens to decorate them.

thanks! yes, she is choosing the fabrics. i will get more buttons, i am sure she will like that. we made some pieces out of felt, and i do have some fleece to try out as well.

she likes the fitted storebought sleepers and such. we both looked at them, and agreed they have many pieces in their patterns, and are more difficult to make. i remember making really loose kimono style outfits for my dolls, and dresses that wrapped around, and loving them, but dd is not convinced she likes them
