I think his reaction was understandable. I thought you letter was fine, if a bit long, up until the last three paragraphs. They contain some very rude and dismissive language.
"you first must provide me with an authoritative reference"
"It simply does not matter whatever else you say"
"It is an absolute requirement for you to provide this before I can take anything else you have to say on the matter seriously."
I do not like it at all when people speak to me in that tone and I let them know it is unacceptable. I don't blame him for being angry. Disagreeing with someone does not give you a license to be rude, insulting, and arrogant. Nothing can be gained by antagonizing him.

Well, first, tone is tough in writing. Your first quote doesnt seem horrible to me at all. Second, I assume the OP is going with the tone of the convo and also with the personality of her uncle and the situation.
I highly doubt that anything in his response would have changed had she been a peaceful princess.
