Am I too late to try to become a CNM?

I have a BS is general science, but not a BSN. I would like to become a CNM. Are there any schools that will allow me to enroll after a few pre-reqs? Or is a BSN or RN required? TIA.

Never too late!

MOst of the CNM I know, didn't have a BSN. We all did accelerated RN programs that allowed us to just right into a MSN/CNM program. Most large nursing schools now have these programs, since so many people are going back to school for nursing. It's a PITA but was the quickest path to get to the CNM. Feel free to PM me with more questions about programs, etc.

I don't know- it use to be that Yale had a program for non-nuses and I think that the state of New York has CM-- it is basically the same as a CNM but you don't have to be a nurse to be one..
it probably also depends on what state you want to practice in- some states require a Masters in nursing in order to become a practicing CNM
look up the nursing practice act in the state you want to work/live

also look at the ACNM web site

Thanks so much! I am currently accepted to pharmacy school for fall 2007 but I am having serious doubts and thinking of midwifery instead!

The midwife I work with decided to become a nurse midwife at age 42 and didn't have a nursing degree or anything. She has been a midwife for 7 years now! go for it!!!!

It's never too late! You can do a bridge program and it probably won't take you longer than pharm school. Go for it! We need more CNMs.
