Upside down drawings

Hey there.

ds is 5 and has suddenly taken to drawing upside down. Mostly people. For example, he was drawing on a large piece of paper. He wanted 2 boys at the bottom. He sat on the floor at the top of the page and drew the people so they were right side up in the picture but upside down to him. Does that make sense?

I'm wondering what this is. I know it's nothing to worry about, and I'm not worried in the least. In fact I think it's really freaking cool to watch since he can draw just as well upside down as right side up. I guess I'm just wondering if this is a fairly normal part of artistic exploration.

How interesting. I'm not sure what it means either, but perhaps there is some part of his being that is experimenting with seeing things from another point of view and this is a concrete way of expressing what is happening at a subconscious level.

Or maybe he just thinks upside down is cool.

Let us know more if you gain more insight.

My dd went through an upside-down drawing phase too, but she was younger (maybe 3?). I have no idea what it was all about, but also found it really cool She draws "normally" now - the phase was maybe 6 months or so (I can't believe how little I can remember!).
