"leave no hummer owner behind"

From the Austin Chronicle:
Quote:
At issue was George W.'s $350 billion tax giveaway to the wealthiest of the wealthy -- the least needy families in America. The millionaire class will enjoy an average of about $93,000 a year from Uncle Sugar in this giveaway. There's even a special "Hummer deduction" tucked into the bill -- sort of like the prize in a box of Cracker Jacks. It gives a tax deduction of up to $100,000 to business owners who buy a vehicle weighing at least 6,000 pounds.

What I wouldn't do for an extra 100k this year....

I wouldn't buy a hummer for one thing, not that it's an option...

Why would they give a deduction for people who own giant vehicles? I understand giving deductions for people who have bought hybrids or something but I just don't see the logic in deductions for huge cars.

This bill was drafted before hummers were made into pleasure vehicles. It is intended to help out farmars in its original form (deductions for tractors, combines, etc.) It was written long before any SUV available was even close to 6,000 pounds. Just goes to show you can't always see into the future (or perhaps they just didn't want to...)

Ah..that makes sense...it should be changed to specify farm equiptment then so giant vehicles don't get included.

Actually, my in laws have been getting their SUV for free with the help of the gov for a long time, since they're business owners. For some reason, I was thinking this is different?

Edited to say that why is it ok for people to get these gas guzzling vehicles for free, when low-income people are critized for using welfare to get their basic needs met? Do we get to call these people SUV queens?
