New blog site looking for writers

I discovered this recently. A lot of the writing is bad, and it seems pretty focused on single young people--but all the more reason to get other voices out there. And there *are* a few good people there.

They are basically 'auditioning' writers now, and are looking for people to be steady contributors (in film and photography too) and are promising fame, fortune, etc...(who knows about that!) but it might end up being a way to get your work out. No pay right now. And notice that they keep rights to anything you write for them--which means that they can do whatever they want with your prose later and not pay you for it.

Still, something about it seems like it could be legitimate, or promising. (Maybe because the editor seems like a really good writer, and they are in Michigan rather than NYC or L.A.!!)

Looks interesting

I agree with you, too. Most of the writing is a bit young . . . lacking that multifaceted perspective approach that comes with age, as well as being a mother.

I'll sign up and see what happens.

Thanks for the info,

Angela

It seems legit but my only belly aching about it is the intellectual property copyrights. I'm sorry but my short stories, and journalistic written work is my intellectual property and I don't like being told that I don't own my works because they want to bypass copyright laws. All they would need for reproductions and use is a written consent letter from the writer themselves.

It kind of seems unfair to take that copyright away from a writer. This is the only thing that prevent s me from joining.

But that's me, I worked hard to produce my written work I'm not about to let someone claim them as their intellectual property.

Sorry, I'm belly aching - I don't mean to but it irks me. Other than that, I think it's cool! A "novel" (lol) idea.

I'm going to have to go even farther than Sheal and say that if you're going to take away MY rights as an author to MY words, you're going to pay me for them. They are basically saying, "Write for us and get absolutely no credit or possibility of using this work again and we won't do anything for you except put you on our site and use your work to support ourselves."

This is a really big pet peeve for me, because it assumes that writers don't work or that the time we spend working is not as important as other professions. My words are worth something, kwim?

Also, I'm not sure that I'd want to attach my name or writing to a place where the content is badly written. That doesn't speak well of me, and bad writing might turn off potential readers.

Sorry to be so blunt and urfy...stuff like this just drives me crazy. I think I'll stick to my own non-paying blog. But good luck to everybody who signs up. Let us know how it works out!
