Thanks Robyn, I was wondering about that too - there was one weird episode that I heard about where she mistook a cousin of BILs for her mother and she got really upset when they had to leave the cousin. That's the only episode like that I've been told about, but that concerned me. Her mom is going to take her to see the doctor for some screening.

It sounds like Aspergers to me-- not the saem type DS probably has, but it set off enough bells. I'm glad they're getting screening. If she tests positive, it could be the perfect oppertunity to steer the mom over here. "This board I'm on is really cool! Some of the moms are a little out there, but a lot of them have special needs kiddos, and they've got a ton of ideas!"

I'd recomend Sleepless In America, too. Also I Love You Rituals and Playful Parenting, just because it sounds like they need some help in that regard. As far as discipline, Thinking Parent, Thinking Child or other books by that author sound like they would be very helpful for this very bright, determined child.
