my little man has become quite emotional in the last month or two. he get upset and cries over almost anything. he cries if i'm not next to him when he wakes up or if he doesn't have the plate he picked out for his lunch. it's not tantrums, he's really upset. he's always been sensitive but not so emotional. i can't tell if it's his age or that his little sister is due anyday now and he's reacting to our moods. is this pretty normal behavior for this age?

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

my ds is about the same age (will be 4 in september) and he's been really moody for a few months now.
ugh. what you said about not getting the plate he picked out really resonates with me. milo gets really upset and sad at stuff that seems very arbitrary. one example is that if he watches a dvd, he gets very upset if it starts w/o ME (can't be daddy, and milo can't do it himself, though he totally could) pressing play. if it's a dvd that starts on it's own, as a couple of ours do, he cries unless i stop it and then press play. when he gets this way, sometimes i feel like maybe i shouldn't play into it. maybe i should refuse to be moved by such a rediculous demand. but he's really sad.
and he didn't used to be so moody at all (he's also more crabby and irritable and having a terrible time going to bed).

sounds like every day at our house. our older boy just turned 3 earlier this month. if you like the the term "spirited", i would definitely consider my son to be one of these type of children. he's not energetic all the time, but he can be. and he is definitely very sensitive, emotional, intense and moody. mary sheedy kurcinka's book is helping me come to a better understanding of him.
wishing you a safe & beautiful birth of your new one...
